My new classic Mini

I found it on ebay in MD! The man that had it needed more room in his garage, so I helped him. It's licensed as a 67, but it's a 97. My father and I drove it back from MD to WI, 1000 miles. Good first feat. Right now it has 17,000 mi. Perfect condition. I don't need it, but in the future I will. This car in ms dream car. Why not get it now when I have a great deal, then wait 20 years and pay the big bucks? So I did.
Only question: It got 33mpg all the way home. A fi1.3 litre engine should get like 43mpg, right?

Nice little car. Have fun with it.

Maybe someone else here that has a FI Mini can confirm your fuel consumption numbers. I only have experience with carb'd Minis.

Is this an MPi or an SPi? My 1999 MPi got just over 40mpg (European), maybe a little more . . and that was always driving it like the world was about to end! So on a long run, at pretty constant speeds, with high octane gas, I would have expected it to hit 46 or 47

The easiest mod to increase fuel economy is a stronger throttle return spring .

Seriously though, do a quick once over - change the oil and change the plugs and wires if they haven't been changed in a while. Clean the air cleaner, then enjoy the ride.

I'd be happy with 33 mpg in my Classic, but it's not FI. Remember that British (Imperial) gallons are five quarts, not 4, (increasing mpg by 25%)

As what Jeff said, give it a tune up since, who knows, it might have never gotten a tune up for the past ten years or more. I was getting about 30-35 in my classic but it had a carb engine.

Awesome Mini though, the BRG with the tan interiors is one of my favorite combinations.

Although probably not your problem, I found that my Mini's steering alignment being off (was almost 1/2" toed in) was eating fuel. If you're sure it should be getting much better MPG you could get the front steering alignment checked. It should be about 1/16" toe out when stationary (at least for the older classics that's the case).

Looks like the parking garage at the new Walter Reed (old NNMC) on NSA Bethesda! Just finished residency there, now serving in Germany. Thanks for your service... Taking care of wounded warriors has been the greatest honor of my career. Enjoy the ride.

Looks great! I was considering a BRG SPI before I settled on buying my mini pick up in 2008. The Webasto sr is fabulous. I have no idea what mpg your MPI should be getting.

Pretty car, I really like the look of the Sportspack/13in wheel cars!

Mid 30's is about all I could ever get out of my '62 Cooper S, I think it's a function of gearing, rpm and hp vs wind resistance and speed.

What RPM were you turning, and what speed did you drive on the trip?
