I am shipping my 1966 Cooper S to New Jersey & driving the 3,000 miles back to Los Angeles. Any other classic owners want to team up with me or am I just crazy?
Just curious
Just curious and if you decide not to reply I understand
but is this something you are thinking of doing or something you have 'contracted' already
I shipped a car coast to coast and that was a considerable expense
and
driving a 'classic' 3000 miles is not only brave from the break down perpective but no a/c, limited speed, complete lack of creature comforts
you are very very brave if you have already dropped serious money on this and I wish you luck.
Me, I'd have taken that money and spent a(nother) weekend in Tahoe driving exotics like Ferrari, Lambo, Mclaren, & Bentley in the mountains

I should let you know that all of my friends think I am crazy anyway...
It’s already a done deal, using Horseless Carriage Carriers Auto Transport to get the 66 Cooper S to the East Coast. Have a rebuilt & up-graded 1275cc A+ performance engine, extra cooling capacity with a full aluminum radiator, auxiliary electric radiator fan, oil cooler, 15 gallons total fuel in dual tanks & electronic ignition among other upgrades.
Your right, average speed is going to limited to 60 MPH that turns the engine at 4300 RPM. A valve adjustment will be done ½ way of the trip along with a filter & oil change. Four new tyers each speed balanced and nitrogen filled. We have sliding 2-60 A/C for comfort with the best arctic cool spring cushions.
Most important; a Premium Triple A Membership and Capitan Chaos as a copilot. I will be setting up a Facebook page to journal the trip with YouTube videos, pictures & other updates along the way.
When I get back to Los Angeles I will drive my Audi 8A home… Just kidding
Gotta get back to prepping the Cooper now... Just one last important message... Zero dark thirty right now, & the situation is stymied. Tango's everywhere, lookin for direct engagement at this time. Good luck to all you Cannonballers out there !!

I have been trying to decide what to do about MTTS 2012. I do not really want to drive from LA to New Jersey and back again but driving one way would be fine. Instead I have been thinking about just doing the last leg or two into LA but I know I will miss out on much fun. I had thought about shipping the car to New Jersey and was figuring about $1200 to ship the car plus one-way air fair for me. What is the car shipment costing?

Best to call a few carriers to get the deal you feel good with. Might be a good price difference between open and enclosed trailers also. Better to do it sooner than later because airfares my cost you more the closer you get to your flight date
