Radius arm casting problem or rust?

Hi all --

I'm in the middle of my radius arm R&R and I have a concern on one of my radius arms. The bearing surface on the RHS radius arm has a large void. Initially I thought it was the result of rust, but there's no metal residue that you'd expect to in a place with rust and grease.

Anyway, please take a look at the attached picture and let me know what you think. Here's a URL to the full-size image: Radius Arm Void

Thanks,
Jeff

Just a thought of mine, would it be possible for the grease to maybe mix in with the rusted area? So that the residue is picked up by the grease, thus making it seem like there was not much or any there?

The void seems to be very unevenly shaped. Hmmm...

Yeah, after thinking about it and looking at it again I think I'm going to have to find another radius arm. That void is about half the thickness of the casting, making the arm much weaker at the load bearing area where the bearing presses in.

So I guess it doesn't really matter what caused the void, although we both know it's from rust
