Hi, does anyone have an answer to this. I currently have a 1000 cc in my mini, I have an opportunity to buy a 1275 cc. Do I need to change the transmission to accommodate the motor, or can I use the one that is in there now. Cheers.
If your current gearbox is a 'rod change' as used on all later models Minis, then is a direct bolt on. If you have a 3 synchro early box, it will not work. If you have a 4 synce box but has the 'remote' style gearshift housing, then is may or may not work. If you supply me the casting number from the front of the trans, I can probably tell you for sure!
Not all 1000cc G/boxes will accept a 1275cc block..............you would require a 1980 + to use both blocks (ie large Idler gear bearing) casing..........
Also what kind of 1275cc motor is it? A or A+
what did it come from? mini, metro, Austin America.....
this does not matter......an early 1000cc box uses a smaller idler bearing then the later box........and early boxes had thicker cast wall and will not to accept the rotation of a 1275 cc crank....
