Very nice. Needs a legal/roll-bar, puke can for the oil, then you can do some vintage racing.

What are your plans for the Mini, show? I hope your planning to drive some good twisties.

While I think that the orange color would have looked better all-over, the silver two-tone works better than I expected. I'd drop the UJ headlamp covers like a bad habit, though - IMHO they ruin the clean line that bisects the car. Ifd YOU like them, though, that's all that really matters.

NICE engine bay - I'm green with envy. it was a nice touch, carrying over the orange/silver line in there.

This was my first try at any thing like this. It was a fun road and I learned a lot for the next one. This mini I have owned for 7 years, it was a french import, or as so I found out rebuilding it. I found a few french parking receipts that had fallen behind some panels.

I know the paint is a little different but I love it. I'm tired of seeing red/blue/white minis with two tone roofs not that I don't love that look. This was a change to try to see if a different type of two tone would work on a mini. (ImagoX, I agree, the UJ covers do distract form the clean lines those will be coming off for certain events).

My goal was to build some thing new with some thing old. I used the original seats and went back to an older style looking dash. Even shaving the bumpers off front and rear. I love the marriage between the two styles.

I'll post some pic's of the inside as soon as I can.

 

I agree on red/blue etc... If (when) I do a VTAC or Cooper S engine swap in Fiona, I plan to use Hot Orange Metallic (as it appeared on the 2005-2006 MINI Cabrio) with black roof and blaxk stripes.

PS - I know what you mean about finding weird stuff in the car behind panels... when I was messaing around with taking out my interior I found several British coins behind things, one of which I glued to the center boss of my steering wheel. now I have a lovely portrait of the Queen on my car. Kinda makes it extra-special IMHO.

As you probably guessed, I'm with you on the need for some different two-tone applications. Job well done on yours.

I also replaced the floors and such, but every one has to do that in a mini.

 

Wow... you gotta love when they don't even bother grinding off the welds, just cover it up with a thick scab of bondo. But hey... at lwast you found a metal patch under there and not a skin of cardboard, fiberglass or some other crap, right? It's interesting... I was just reading a back-issue of Practical Classics (thanks, Chuck!!), and they did that EXACT same repair... Theirs was much neater-looking though.

 

You should have seen the tail lights. I'm sad I don't have a good shot of them before the media blaster got a hold of them. My mini is an MK2, and the lights I have are MK1. I guess way back when it was popular to convert the rear lights. Any way under the MK1 light the body curves to mach the pattern of the light. My tail light were built out of bondo.

I'd do the Mk1. tail light conversion in a heartbeat. I love the look. I've also seen some nice custom jobs that use 3 of the little dome lights like is used for the front turn signals - the MOD uses 3 in a vertical row, one white (for reverse), one yellow (for turn) and one red (for brake) per side, mounted on a custom plate bent to match the rear curve. They look really great.

 

Very nice work!! It should do well at the shows, and I also think it will look better without the UJ headlight covers.
