This is the first classic body style I've seen with a two tone using that bodyline. Nicely done, and a risk worth taking. The color choice makes me think of a 37 Chevy Coupe I saw last summer, sweet colors would be an understatement.

This being your first Mini project is also special, but it looks to me as if you've done this type of work before. The average backyard guy just isn't that thorough the first time. Correct me if I'm wrong.

All in all, very nice indeed. Now take some paint remover to those UJ headlights. Then try some chrome eye lids instead, those are always cool!!!

+1 on that. The car is outstanding, but the headlights detract (IMO)....

The paint lines were hot rod inspired. I have owned this mini for 7 years or so. But the AZ scene for British cars in nothing like it is in the rest of the country. But the Hot Rod scene is here is Awesome. I go to the car shows when ever I can. So most of the inspiration I have has come form the old timers at the shows seeing what they have done. And my old man. He is a 70 year old hot rod'er from the 50'ds scene.

But this is my first swing at a full resto. AS you can see from the welding it is not the best. I learned how to do it from books and my own mistakes.

As for the UJ covers. Thank god there not paint. I have a pic before I finished the mini with out them. The UJ's are just light covers, they were a gift from my dad. I do like it better with out them. I'll post more pic's with out them after this weekend. There is actually a mini show here in AZ today at the MINI dealership. Ill be able to get allot more pic there tonight.

Oh and the Purple Mini in the back is my next project. I just picked that one up 3 weeks ago.

Here is also a Pic of our fleet.. Green(Wifes 2006) Yellow is a 2008. Purple is a 75 rhd.

Awesome! Looks like a great project and fun to boot (so to speak)! Since you said it, I definitely agree about removing the light covers, but understand there's a little 'sentimentality' there. The lineup looks great. When your family heads out for a run, you really don't need anyone else, do 'ya?

Congratulations!

Great looking car! Looks like you had a reasonably good shell to start with - compared to some that I have seen people start with.

What did you do with your subframes and what did you do with the underside of the body? Mine was just blasted and the replacement panels are due in tomorrow. I am planning to use POR15 even thought the car is stripped. I am also planning to POR15 my wheel wells. I see you used your car color - did you just paint them?

I agree with the other comments on the UJ headlights - and I'm even British! However, its your mini and if you look it... cool

I dont get it! I think everyone has said that they do not like the Union Jack things over the Headlights. The guy said his Dad bought them for him, give him a break. I think the car is great! Union Jack Headlights or not!

The under side of the body was covered in Rino Liner. I got Rino liner that was clear and added the body color paint to it.

The subframes are just painted. If I was doing it again I would have powder coated them.

Let us know how that holds up - that's a fascinating idea. I didn't know that Rhino came in clear - great tip!

I love it so far. I have spilt just about every type of fluid that is in a car on the Rino liner covering and it has held up. (I also have it covering inside the mini on the floor up to the bottom of the dash and 1/2 the fire wall in the engin bay and the inside of the door wells.). I have droped tools, glass, and paint remover on it. Not one scratch or fade. Not only is it super durable it is a second round of sound proofing. I know this sounds like a sale pitch, but I'm going to do this or ever other project I do.

The one down side to this is the cost, depending on the paint you use to color the Rino liner. The Rino Liner is cheep but to get a color match it takes 2x as much paint to cover the aria. and if you use fancy colors it is worse. The Rino liner is no totally clear it is some what opaque. So it takes alot of paint to get the color to match. So if you are useing paint that is $500 a quart it will get exspencive fast.

I used Rino lining on the chassis of the Dune Buggy I am building! So far so good!
