Outer Sill Replacement

As many of you have probably seen from my posts, I am working on rebuilding my '79 Mini 1000 saloon. My issue surrounds finding the right RH sill to repair my car. Here is my story to date:
  • I ordered an aftermarket outer sill and received a piece of sheet metal that is 6" wide. Comparing to what I have, it is about 2" wider than the original piece meaning that what I would call the drainage holes (air vents) are closed off if it is installed as is
  • After talking to other parts suppliers I found that there are 3 versions of the replacement panel - an original part (have not seen one yet) that is supposed to be 4" wide and replace what is on my car, a 6" wide panel that can replace what I have - but should it be cut down?, and finally an 8" panel that was referred to as an oversill - I guess this could covers all sins if you are so inclined (no offense mean't if this worked for you )
I ordered a 4" wide panel from another supplier and received a piece from the UK that is 4" wide panel marked as a Van/Traveller panel that is very different from a MK4 (same as MK3 in this case) panel. This panel is longer than what I need, has some additional indents than mines, and has no hole for the jack location. I am assuming until I call them in the morning that I have a wrong part?

Is there a 4" outer sill for an MK3/MK4 that I can purchase? Can the 6" panel be reasonably cut-down and used (seems like too much trouble)? The LH side is fine and I would like both sides to be the same.

Any suggestions? What have you seen for outer sills?

Thanks for helping the first timer!

http://http://www.minispares.com/Pro...y=pb&pid=32902 Check this out and see if its what you need. Its an oem part from rover. They have really cheap prices. Shipping is a little higher since it comes from britain ,but it usually still ends up saving money. Seven ent. has it here http://www.7ent.com/detail.cfm?pageid=1540 , but they want $65.00 for it. Good luck.

I ordered left and right from MiniMania last year and rec'd the 4 inch, marked genuine Rover parts with all the holes in the right places. As I recall MM had both the 4 and 6 inch under different numbers.

$64

I would suggest that you do some cutting of the old b4 you order. I had the 4 inch in hand when I started cutting and on one side could have used the 6...I ended up fabricating a couple more inches for about a foot of length so I could get rid of yet more bad stuff. It might have been easier to trim down the wider ones....

You are correct, there are
  • 3 widths 4", 6" & 9"
  • these come in 2 lengths saloon and lwb -(van/wagon/pickup)
  • there are also 3 styles Mk1 cars had 4 vents, yours had 6 vents and later have more.
You need 4" wide, 6 vent saloon length
Minispares #14A9534 LH & #14A9535 RH

Description
These 4" wide sills are genuine Rover replacement parts with6 vents and are for MK3on saloon. If you want it to look right, you've got to use the right parts.

BJ is right, you may end up with more work underneath to the inner sill. If you are handy with sheet metal, or can have a shop fb a piece you'll do just fine. Lift you carpets an look at the inside of the floor and inner sill to give you an idea. Any rust/holes there & you've more to do.

Thanks all for the help. The floors are good, the inner sill needs replaced from the crossmember to the front only. I should be OK with the 4" - perhaps I will order the 4" and wait before I return the 6" in case there is more work to do.
