Secret Agent in a MINI or a minivan?

How much do you know? Ok... don't answer that.

When I got my drivers license back in '72, once you got past Sunset Point road in Clearwater, there was nothing but pine trees and palmettos on either side of the highway until you reached the flashing traffic light at Tarpon Springs.

The wife moved there in '67 and myself in '69. We both lived in Largo, which at that time had a population of about 12,000. Currently I believe the population is pushing 100,000. Just too many people in too small of an area.

After that really bad hurricane season in 2004 convinced us to get out of Dodge. I was friends at the time with the emergency services director for Pinellas county. I saw him shortly after Hurricane Charley. I asked him what was the evacuation plan for the county. He stated "If you can't get out three days ahead of impact, you might as well just hunker down and hope for the best.". Trying to get out of that county during an emergency is impossible.

Sorry for the rant.
Actually Hal, I hate driving on 19 or anywhere up there in the Tampa Bay area. I avoid it. Someday it will probably be like that down here... but at least I'll know my way around ahead of time.

It's kind of sad that you moved so far away from a place where you lived for so long. I'm sure it's nice where you are but it's VERY different up there. Did you ever consider just moving a little further inland down here? You're so far away from the Gulf! You lived here for lots of years without many major hurricanes, right? Too bad that crazy year made you feel that way.

So do you live near the Smokies?

Happy Tuesday Ola!

Hubby keeps looking at this automatic classic that's been for sale on the coast for a while.. the only problem is, where to park it, how bad the rust is and if we can manage it we're not sure what to do on any of those problems. We could, technically, park it in front of Viola... but we'd have to rearrange the entire garage and have to store it somehow for the winter because I could not imagine driving it during the winter months up here...

So far, we've opted not to make an offer, but it's tough to pass it up.

PICTURES??? RG- we NEED pictures!! (And BTW- we're still waiting to see your new plates.)

I would think that RUST would be the #1 concern. Finding a place to put the new baby is NOT a good excuse for not getting one. They're small... you can put it anywhere. I think car covers are pretty inexpensive too.

So wouldn't it be funny if we all ended up getting "Classics" because of this thread?

**Oh yeah, just try to copy and paste the pics. Don't post any links or contact info for it (like Craig's list, etc). We've got LOTS of lurkers out there.

Even inland was getting crowded. I can remember PD (pre-Disney) Orlando. Biggest thing O-town had going PD was the cattle auctions.

Don't miss the Gulf though. Both Deb and I went about twelve years without going to the beach islands. After living there so long it just didn't hold anything for us anymore. The only thing that got us out there again was a really good seafood restaurant on Indian Rocks Beach.

It was really the over-population in combination with a moderate hurricane season that made up our minds. We had been looking at Tennessee for over ten years. People are friendlier and more polite around this area. Less traffic also.

If look at the map of Tennessee, we're about halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga, just west on I-24. We live in the smallest county in the state, Moore county (appx pop. 5700). The county seat is a bit better known, Lynchburg.

On a happier subject, are you planning on trying to go and see the upcoming shuttle launch? I think its scheduled for Saturday June 13th.

Sounds like a good excuse to go over there Friday night and catch an early morning launch.

Oh. Those are expensive and hard to find. And they're also technically illegal. (Have to re-vin them to get them in the country)

I've driven Dodge Vipers, 1000HP Dodge Dart, numerous 300-800HP Honda and Acura's, and many other cars in between and I have to say driving my 73' Mini is the funnest experience! lol

It's definitely interesting driving a Mini. And fun. Haven't driven any high horsepower cars like you though... Ridden in a Ferrari though...

I'm still unsure on how loud the interior is supposed to be when driving, it sounds like the motor is about to blow up at times

edit: loud, not long lol

That's normal. Mine sounds the same. LOL. They're pretty loud inside but its still a cool car to drive. Mine has a CD player in it that worked for a day and quit working after I unplugged it and plugged it back in... It was weird to be listening to music while driving it..

Can you install any sort of baffling to reduce the interior noise?

Hey RG!! Love the plates!!!! I am debating plates, when I used to drive my convertible in Ohio I had Giddyup as my plates. I loved them,, esp since I had horses and all.
Now I am debating just plain ole Sloopy,,,,
Guess what guys? I have a free day!! I initially booked it very lightly since Mon. Tues and Thurs are really tough packed days and now things came up that caused the clients to cancel..... long story short? I am still in my jammies!! And no, OLa, they aren't gnome jammies...
I love doing housework in my jammies...sigh

Hey Gem!!! Hope you see this,, I know your hubby ( and you) love your jeeps. Have I told you that my son has 2 of them and takes them off roading in Colorado? Well here is Tyler and Carrie with their little jeep pulled alongside my son's. Of course the big jeep is virtually pushed out of the pic! but you get the idea!!
