Great news!!! Know you had a great Valentines Day!!!

And you can be happy to have found out the ethics of the other company without having had to suffer their employment.

Can you believe it??? hahaha, i like the nonchalant attitude! Just might use it.
Hubby says, to just tell him I could not work for someone like you, not even tell him i have another job, make it sound like i would rather not work then to work with him.

How was your Valentines day, hope you have chocolate!

We still have the grandson, and he is refusing to take a mid morning nap, so i think we will wash him up and take him to the mall for a little while. to get him to sleep a bit!
have a great day, will check back later today at nap time!

Oooooh, I like that approach better,,, you can still be nonchalant,,, while you tell him that!! That you simply couldn't work for someone like him!! LOVE IT!!

I did actually have some choclate and we decided to make a nice meal and stay home ( since I am still a little under the weather) we made my favorite chewy choc. and peanut butter cookies. guess I want some salmonella now!!
Go enjoy your day , I forgot that you have that little guy all weekend,,, hahahah

Well, here's my chance to come say hello and I don't see anyone. That's ok though.

Wanted to say sorry to RJ that you are feeling the pain of the "L word"... ugh.

And Gem- congrats on your NEW job! Probably the fact that the other guy pissed you off so much helped give you back some of your Italian MOJO to get this other job. Funny how things work sometimes. IMHO- if he ever calls you back... first I would say, (pleasantly of course) "I'll get back to you next week.". And after that week has passed, I'd send him a fancy "Thank you" card thanking him for taking back his first offer... explaining that had it not been for him doing what he did, you would have missed the opportunity for the even better offer/job that you received. (Although I like the "moral high ground" idea too... it could play into his egotistical thoughts that he was right about you all along and that you really didn't want to work... and we know that's not true.)

As for taking back offers, I didn't want to mention it before... but it does happen. Happened to the husband last year but I was very happy about it. He had interviewed with a decent sized company in Orlando. Supposedly he just wanted to "practice" interviewing and I told him before, during and after that there was no way that I would move to Orlando. NO WAY. So we went up there and he interviewed. I sat with him during the interview (no... just joking... I went shopping at HomeGoods). He's done with the interview and he's late and I'd been sitting in the car for about an hour WAITING. He comes out all excited and we have dinner and he's trying to talk me into this whole "how great it could be for him" (blah blah blah) and his future (blah blah blah) and how everyone there really liked him (blah blah blah) and I said "NOT GOING TO HAPPEN".

Well there was a guy that he went to college with (Mark) that worked there and he happened to be gone during the day that he went up. He was supposed to be there for the interview and then he wasn't. A few days after the first interview he got the "initial" offer. The offer was similar to what he already has, so it made no financial sense to even consider uprooting everything. There was discussion/negotiation about flexibilty of benefits and compensation but the husband never formally ACCEPTED the offer... it was just an offer until the paperwork was signed.

A few days later we had gone to Jacksonville to Mayo Clinic and on the way back home we drove through some areas (I had also researched online) and we didn't really see many areas that were equivalent to the life we have here. He had talked on the phone (while I was driving) to some other guy that worked there and asked which areas he thought were nice. (We didn't really like those places.) And truthfully, the real estate market wasn't good and we wouldn't have been able to sell our house to move somewhere else.

So the next week, he got a call from someone saying they wanted him to come back for a second interview. It was a bit confusing since they had already offered a job... but this time he was going to meet with his former college-mate Mark and some other guy. So he goes up again (without me) and comes home. For awhile, he doesn't hear anything and he doesn't get return calls. When he finally does hear something, he's told that they have decided that they will be splitting the job into two positions and they offer him a different job with much lower pay. I was VERY HAPPY... because now it wasn't even an option to move.

The first thought was that something had happened with this former college-mate and that maybe he didn't like him... since that's when everything changed. Nothing about this particular employer was discussed for several months... and then one day the husband found out that the college-mate had actually moved to a totally different company on the East Coast of Florida! Apparently the company was dealing with some internal issues.

I told the husband that HE was very lucky that he never took the original job offer. Because if for some reason I had actually decided to move and uproot everything I know and love about where I am now... and THEN all of this sht hit the fan... . I'll just say... it would have gotten REALLY ugly. I'm sure his mom would have missed him.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

And welcome to Scott (or "Quad")... wish you'd been here earlier when the post was really moving along!

Or you could accept the offer, ask when you start, then never show up!!
But that probably wouldn't be very ethical...but it is fun to think about!

thanks for all the great thoughts on how to give him a "taste of his own medicine" but think i will just tell him No Thank you! assuming he calls! of course.

OLA, glad you told me your husbands story, if made me feel better, some people said they assumed i either didn't accept or i must have been mistaken. NO it really happened. and apparently it does happen more then one thinks!

Just for the record, this law firm isn't a better offer, but hey it's an offer, and even if something better comes along, at least i will be working and not so "desperate" so to speak. But this firm has potental to grow! I'm good with that, at least we won't be loosing our house over the economy issues!
I happy no matter what, I will be getting up in the morning and going to WORK! but will miss hanging with you guys during the day, but at night i will be stopping in to see everyone!

Well Gem, I'm glad you felt better.

Like I said before... you were the only one that interviewed with him so you would be the only one that would know for sure if he was a total hole or if there was a misunderstanding. The rest of us here and other people you talk to can only guess.

After the suggestion given by cabwy's husband about talking to the guy... well it got me thinking about "what if" it had been a simple misunderstanding? I know you've been super stressed about not working and I didn't want to see you walk away from something promising if it was just a misunderstanding. Also, if you need a job you need a job so... didn't want you to not be able to afford the chocolate addiction while you looked for another job! If he was nice, then it could have been worth a shot to try and straighten it out... but if you felt like there was something not right about him then walking away was probably the way to go... know what I mean? If he's a hole then he's a hole... and you can't fix that.

Jobs with growth potential are great! And like you said... if you decide that you want to look elsewhere... at least now you don't have to come off looking/feeling desperate. (I'm picturing a desperation scenario (not yours) of a woman told she only has one egg and she has to find a man by Monday @ 10pm or she'll be without child forever! ) Yikes!

Is this job better than the one that emailed the break-up/laid off letter? Now THAT was pretty friggin' lame.

ok, so our grand son just left and whhhhheeewww, and shhhhh it's quiet in here. I love when he comes but noticed one thing he was quietly sitting on a chair hugging his teddy bear watching my husband make a new recipe of beer bread and we were just all sitting and talking and then his parents came in and instant crazed kid. He started to act like we gave him 10 pounds of sugar. I told him mom seriously this weekend he did not act like this until you came in....
ahhhh my feet are up and pup is asleep in her bed and it's quieeetttt!

Good morning everybody!!

I like your new signature, Mtymous... very nice. Clean and to the point with a classy flair to it!!

Gem did I miss it? Did you say when you start your new job? If it is this morning, please play well with others, and make new friends.

I am actually back to work today!! I missed so much that I am a little afraid of how my muscles will work for me today....
But gotta start somewhere, right?

Oh, I have a little issue with Sloopy- she is giving me some of that whacky window behavior. I roll my window up and it hits the top and poof! It rolls back down halfway. I do this dance sometimes 5-6 times before the window will stay up. I guess I will be taking Sloop back to Otto's soon...

Morning all, Mtmous do love that sig, it's a keeper!

Cab, I start Tuesday at 9am. So today is my last day to "play". I emailed my mom last night to see if she wanted to walk around the outlets or somehting today, one last day.
with the holiday i wonder if the law office is closed today - wouldn't that be nice to observe all the government holidays along with regular holidays.

Everything happened so quick with the hiring (2 hours) I never asked about any kind of holiday/vacation benefits, so will talk with them tomorrow...

in any case i should be in an out all day today, with that one day of play!!!
good luck back to work Cab, don't over do it!

Morning Everyone- what a weekend- I hope everyone was sufficiently Valentined this weekend?

Congrats Gem on the job- Hope you have a great day at the new office.

Cab, I believe the service techs have had a notice about the DS window on the clubbie (at least the 09) doing just that. I had issues too.

Well, in my crazy world, we've gone from 70*+ days to 23 this morning. Brrrrrr.....
I'm supposed to take my 9 yr old daughter to a friend's for lunch, then we're all supposed to go trail riding. Age has caught up to me as the idea of trail riding in this weather doesn't do anything for me! Brrrr.... If it warms up, that will make me happier. And on top of it, my horses are all big woolly monsters.

Enjoy your day everyone-

Thanks TNMM-I have read all of the window threads on here and it sounds like there are some fixes. I just need to find the time now to take it in.

Have fun if you decide to ride. I used to hate riding in cold weather also! Esp. if my horse was a wooly like that. Poor things would get soaking wet with little effort. Then you had to figure out how to dry them after.

OOooh Gem,, your last day of freedom!! It makes sense that the lawyers would take the government holidays- since all of their lifelines are on that same schedule, the courts, post offices and etc.

Well you are not going to believe this one… I just got a call from the New Job, they asked if I would postpone starting until they call me back. They got in this morning to a problem and are having issues with a Paralegal that works with them about wanting more money and he is “very sorry” but since that is the “backbone” of their company until they get this resolved they don’t want to bring me on. They said she wants more money and now they might not be able to afford me!

How is that for a kicker!
