OMG, this has to be the slowest recovery of a doggie ever!!! kiki i LOVE that hot water bottle idea.... I think he would really like that. We can't decide if he shivers from being chilled or being in pain, he now leaves his bed by the radiator and wants to lay down with his tummy against the cool floor. So I am thinking it is pain. and that is such great news for Krissy,, isn't that funny that he had to tell you all about it??
Hey 'Ola, how was the night/early morning? It is sooo cold here but not as cold as Tennessee , brrr!!
I am taking the day off, well at least until this evening, I have someone coming to my home office after work and I think I will be fine by then, time will tell.
Hearing about all of your gorgeous trees and thinking about the warmer climates is killing me, I sooo would love to move somewhere warmer....sigh
I keep "suggesting" to hubby that he oughta take a couple weeks and go to Fla. to do some job searching. He has so many jobs right now as an IC that I doubt he could get away, but a girl can try!!

Pilotart- saw the face! If you hadn't pointed it out though... not sure I would have spotted it on my own with all that lush landscaping! Beautiful Plumeria! That is weird about the temps.

Looks like not much for problems. I went out for a drive at 2:30 this morning with Jackie so I could see what the temp was with the MINI. Yeah, she's a thermometer! That DING at 37F cracks me up!

I made the husband get a thermometer last night before he came home but I wasn't getting an accurate reading. It's showing 33.8F as the lowest but I know I saw 30F in the MINI. I think the weather on TV was showing 37F around midnight and the new therm was showing 44F. Too close to the house probably. My "Swamp Lily" looks sad but it's a native plant so it will come back. Grass doesn't look too much worse than the last freeze. The palms look ok except for the new growth spikes are brown. My FIJI palm near the pool looks pretty bad but that pretty much happens every year. We kept the pool running through the night and there were a few times when I heard it sound like it was running a bit weird. I think we've actually seen it colder here before.

Kiki- Did you say it was in the 70's and you haven't had your top down yet???? Get a jacket/scarf/hat and use Krissy's hot water bottle... or maybe you could make one for yourself! Put your heat on "84 on the floor" set the fan to the highest setting... drive with your windows up if you have to and set your soul free! The first night we got our convertible (Jan '05) it was SO cold in Jacksonville... it was below 40F (which might not seem bad... but when you haven't ever ridden with the top down on the highway... it's freakin' COLD!). Anyway, it was her maiden voyage AND it was our first MINI and our first CONVERTIBLE! Had to be done. You simply MUST DO IT!

Funny, I was thinking earlier about a post I read the other day. And then I was thinking... how did we ever figure out where Sandy lived to begin with? I remembered... oh yeah... she was so busy showing off that she forgot that she was posting her home address on her YouTube video. And then she offered the FREE Mini that she had no intention of delivering. Sad how that all played out.

Gem, sweetie,,, you are fine,,,
I guess it is too soon to hear anything yet on that job?

And 'Ola, yes, you are correct, sandy put her video up showing off her Nav and showed us all right where she lived....!! I bet she really regrets that now!!

Have I mentioned that I used to own convertables? I used to have the Chrysler Sebring, had one very first year that they came out with it and 2 more after. I did exactly what Miniola was suggesting, heat on high at your feet and put that top down... it is an awesome feeling you can feel the "thermocline" of both the hot and cooler air,,, very very cool..

I am thinking that my next mini will be the cabrio uhm it is called a cabrio, right??

Nope don't mind saying, I am a Finance Manager/ HR Manager.
I can do either or all the above...

But on the side I'm studying Gemology. Taking my final this Sunday on Diamond Grading. When I finish this final I will go on to grading Color Stones.

OKMINI, I love that island blue! Very nice!! keep us posted.

and on the same lines of overflowing water, my daughter in law decided to take a long hot bath the weekend they moved into their new home, and yup, the tub over flowed into their dining room. Hubby and step son spent the next week ripping out and replacing the ceiling and walls of the room! Things happen.

YEAH...

OK... I guess it's time to bring out the big smiley faces!

So gem- you were a bit of a "sht talker" yesterday ... I thought it was funny though... and didn't think for one second that you wanted all of my plants to die. I was just letting you know that our stuff can't take the cold... otherwise I'd be all for seeing a freak snow! I would "THINK" by now we all know who our friends are here and who's not. Like, I'm guessing that Apple does not like me and vice versa.

I do my share of sht talking too... (especially when playing Wii Bowling).

I'll share one of my weather related sht talking experiences with you. My mom has a brother down here in Port Charlotte. When I lived in Maine, she came down to visit him for the first time. It was actually the first time she had ever been on a plane and it was the first time she had ever been to Florida.

When we brought her to the airport in Maine it was actually quite SPRING-like. She took off on her fancy schmancy trip to the FL (yes, my brother and I were totally jealous) and the next day we got hit with a BLIZZARD! And it wasn't only the snow... it was like 40 below ZERO too! I remember talking to her brother on the phone and he was talking about how he was SO cold in the 40's & 50's (blah blah blah) and he had to put pants and a sweater on. (OH I had such sympathy! ) My mom kept talking about how she couldn't imagine how it could be SO different in another place. And it's hard to understand until you've been here in Florida for awhile. I hadn't been to Florida before so I had no idea. We had just gone from unseasonable temps in the low 70's to minus 40! I had little sympathy. And there, my brother and I sat... frozen. He lived with her at her house but I lived in my own place. Anyway, so after a week and a half of her basking in the sun we got this major warm up like the day before she got home. I picked her up at the airport and it was in the 60's and NO SNOW on the ground! She was able to completely miss the whole event... and she didn't even believe that it happened except for the fact that it was all over the news!

I certainly don't expect that anyone should have sympathy for me. I feel very lucky to live where I do. I have just passed my 10th year here. The tour book said 12 years makes you "native"... so I'm working on that!

Funny thing is, there are lots of people that complain about cold and then they come here and they "hate it" because they think it's the same every day. They miss "the seasons". Not me. When you've lived here long enough you realize that there really ARE seasons... they're just not as dramatic as further north. For example, it's hot in the summer but the thunderstorms are stunningly BEAUTIFUL! In the winter, we hardly ever have clouds... and although I find myself enjoying the weather, I actually look forward to summer again. It's expensive to heat the pool in the winter too... so I miss that. Personally, I have NEVER regretted the decision I made to move here though. I LOVE IT! And any time I feel the need to freeze my *** off, there's usually a reasonably priced direct flight on Southwest from Tampa to Manchester, NH that I can take.

We did not move here with jobs... I was too sick to hold a job. We had no savings. The husband travelled for work so we were able to choose where we wanted to be. The first house we bought was $50k and it was 1/1... tax records showed that it as 480SF. We had no family here and I was pretty much on my own for 6-8 months out of the year. And I STILL loved it.

Yep. Cabrio is cool! About a month ago I was being "hard core" with my "I'm not putting the top up attitude". Anyway, I pulled up next to a guy with his top down. So I yelled over to him, "What's your heat set on?". I think I surprised him... he says, "Pardon me?"... all proper and everything and I'm thinking, "OK, he thinks I'm a lunatic... but wait... he's got the top down too!". So I yelled louder, "IT'S COLD! WHAT TEMPERATURE DO YOU HAVE YOUR HEAT SET ON?!?!?" (We were at a stoplight.) He laughs and yells, "84 ON THE FLOOR!". I looked down and that was my exact setting! I yelled, "ME TOO!". We both started laughing, realizing that we were BOTH crazy... gave each other the and went our separate ways when the light turned green.

Cabwy- when are you supposed to be coming to Sarasota?

thanks for the story and expecially the smilies, (you got alot of them in there!).
I do love Florida, and I guess i'm stilll surprised when it gets "that cold" there. My ex was in the service and stationed in Florida, so for 4 years every weekend i would fly down to the air force base and stay for the weekend, but my career and family kept me here in Pa.
Even in the "winter" time while I was there I don't remember it getting too cold at night and again we are talking a very long time ago... (nothern florida)
I have always wanted to move south, warm all year, but again my family is here. So as much as i hate the cold, I will stay with my family. But I can say Spring time does seem to "wake me up" and i have a "get me out of the house and go topless attitude"
I do appreciate you laughing at the "goofing" i was doing yesterday certainly as you said after 110 pages, we know who are friends are and who are not...

So another subject, when Cab and I show up at your house next week for the duration of the winter, should we bring heavy sweaters or coats??

Jumping in here ladies... Gem, I read the above as:

But on the side I'm studying Germology

I think I've been following all the doggie (and now Cab's) illnesses, topped with Ola's rumble in her tail pipe, too much

As an aside- Cab did I see that you ride horses? PM me, I have horses her in TN, ride and drive them...

TTFN ladies, I'm back off to finish playing ketchup with this thread... phew!

The smiles were especially for you!

I don't know for sure what the temps will be next week but it's supposed to get pretty cold again tonight. Anything about 40 will probably feel like summer to you guys... so I would reccommend shorts.

As for the "goofing"... well I'm pretty sure even if I complained about being cold in Maine that someone from the Arctic could pop in with a line about wantin' to talk about COLD! Unless of course their internet connections are frozen.

I guess a big plus about not liking your family is that you can live somewhere warm! (My mom moved down here a couple years after me... but that's it.)

Gotta go for now. Easy on the chocolate.

TNMini, Germology definately made me laugh out loud, and if that were the case I would certainly be in certain trailers looking for specimens!!

but for everyone here, if you could see the pile of hershey kiss wrappers in front of me right now you would laugh yourself...
"slowly step away from the chocolate"!!
Kisses with caramel filling is my chocolate of choice!
what is everyone's favorite? I personally like Hershey but do love imported Italian chocolate when i can get ahold of some.

I would get more studying done if i weren't addicted to this darn thread!!!

Great story 'Ola... and TNminimama-- YES!! I am a darned good equestrian... ( humble aren't I?) I never did anything fancy like showing but was raised on a horse farm and we drove STANDARDBREDS. and I mostly did trail rides... we always wanted to go to the Land between the Lakes- have you been there? You can drive forever there.
We also rode at Loretta Lynn's ranch at her bi annual trail ride event. I have a nice big belt buckle for going there 5 years... woooo hoooo

My addiction is Reese Cups... my hubby brought home a package of them last night- trying to make me feel better and I sucuumbed this afternoon, now I feel queasy again....addictions are a baaaad thing...

Gem, interesting that you are in the finance field,,, that field has taken a beating. When you study Gemology is it like appraisals? My husband is involved with the ASA and valuations and some of the memebers are in the jewelry field. They are called in to assess estate jewelry and such.

I have a nice big belt buckle for going there 5 years... woooo hoooo
Wil PM you later.
Upledger, huh? Did I miss somewhere that you are studying cranial sacral? big fan. Do you need a victi..., uh, I mean someone to practice on?
Yup, we need to chat Cab... was raised on a horse farm too and now, in my second childhood (with young children) have horses again.

Hey Ola, I've been giggling about your top down stories... Yesterday, in the 17 degree weather, I cracked my sunroof and turned the heat on my feet. Cars drove past me and people stared. If my ragtop was running (an old Benz ragtop) I'd have been out in that 17 degree weather with the top down. I love to drive in the rain with the top down (as long as there are no stop signs or lights) cause I'll have the wipers going but the rain will mostly miss me if I drive teh *right* speed... even more fun in the snow!

tee hee... must go plot something wicked
