Uh...that's almost $32,00 each!! They probably don't make them with American specs (i.e. environmental restrictions, etc.) Nuts. That's a seriously good lookin' car!

Very nice, indeed. I also like the dual rear doors, folding rear seat cargo area and supercharged engine.

jeepster-

I totally agree. I was wondering the same thing about who did the fabrication and whether something like this might be available.

I don't like the way the rear windows are riveted (screwed?) in, and the rear license plate won't work here - if you look, it's a sticker or something. Doing that MOD here would mean molding in an off-center recession for an American license plate. Still... VERY cool.

+ lots'o'time + $$$$

I am completely redoing my car and this may be a possible option. Start with this part. Mount the boot lid (temporary of course), cut, weld, align, paint. Simple right!!! Maybe even just make it a hatch, then at least the factory glass could be used and most of the lower boot seal lip could be utilized. Possibly fiberglass?

This thread is the worst ever cause it really got my gears churning for another addition to an already long project.

this was on The Mini Forum posted by an apprentice worker........

Hi,

I'm Bastien, and I really know the "Shorting Break" project, because I was a trainee In Automobiles BMC for 4 months, during the “Shorting Break” conception and construction. I'm always there to discuss or to find a rare part and I've kept very good relations with François, the boss.

I'm available to answer to your questions.
Firstly, François and all the staff of ABMC is very proud to show their car make a lot of interrest for Mini's addicts.
Moreover, ABMC is selling the project. The white car which is on the photos is not for sale, because it's a "show-car".
The "Shorting Break" transformation not includes the supercharger kit, but only the rear transformation which is composed of the 2 rear doors and the rear seats transformation (with the fuel tank conversion. In the sold transformation, the rear Mini subframe is kept). This rear transformation have been patented, so you’ll find it only at Auto BMC
The difficulty was to have a rear Mini design with 2 doors.
This vehicle has been totally modified to show that Automobiles BMC could make in engineering, body, painting, interior and accesories.
You can show that arches are totally new, and a little bit different as Sportspack arches. We can sell these, as the front and rear valances. The centered carbon dash console is for sale too, and an ABMC exclusivity.
The name "Shorting Break" really make a reference to "Shooting Brake". In french, we say "Break de Chasse", because Break is the French for "Estate", or "Station Wagon". "Shorting" because it's a short estate. It's not an error to have named this project like this

I've had yesterday a new video on the www.auto-bmc.com website to show you the Shorting Break presentation to customers. I'll had a new one in few days to show it really works and runs. We were in a local sports car meeting with it on Sunday, and all car fans were astonished.
Auto BMC will have a place for the IMM on Birmingham in 2009 and this vehicle will be exposed with other realisations.

For this transformation cost, it's not around 20 000£ as I could read a few pages before. I think the "shorting break" transformation will cost around 5000£ (It will depend on the different options) with simply the rear transformation i've enumerated before.
That's obvious the first car on the photos with all accessories, motor engeneering, leather interior, brakes, suspensions, and everything other have cost more than 20000£.

The body has been reinforced, and that's logical they had not only cutted and made a piece of fiberglass to shut down the rear It’s not as simple as it could seems to be.

But I can't say everything on the transformation or the new body structure, that's evident too...

See you on the forum

truly amazing ...................
