Sound system upgrade

Anyone recommend a shop in Chicago? I like to start upgrading my system with the ultimate goal of getting the Ipod in there. I would love to get the Alpine units but they loose the MFSW.

Anyone recommend a good head unit? also looking to upgrade speakers.

And then probably get the Ice Link plus.

Any info/tips would be great.

thanks

Howdy,

I am also looking for a reputable Audio install place to go to. I have an XM Commander and the ipod aux input that I need to get installed but I am a little scared of the kids at Circuit City and Best Buy. Any suggestions?

I’m not sure who’s been feeding you this false information, but my aftermarket Alpine HU works great with my MFSW. You will have to use an additional IR unit, but the MFSW works as advertised.

Do a search in the Audio Forum for MFSW and look for information on the PAC SWF-1 or something like that. Mines been in a couple years so I don’t remember the exact name and I can't see it up under the dash, but you’ll be able to use the MFSW as if you had a stock unit in the MINI.

Look at post about 2 years old or older.

I thought that option was bad, but after reading about it looks pretty good. Hows the response time when you swtich tracks or raise volume? Any interfearance??

Any pictures of the installation?

There is a shop in Chicago that is the best when it comes to custom work. The place is Showtime Audio. My buddy, who is also a member of our local club had work done to his X5 and I must say it's amazing to see in person.

The site of the shop is www.showtimeaudio.net

If you want custom work, this is the place, but be prepared to pay the premium. Lets just say the amount he paid for his system, he could of bought himself a MINI.

Here are some pics of the work:

well i think that might be a little overkill on what you guys want to achieve...

i know of a shop in Schaumburg. Its called MarkSound or something like that. They do pretty good work when it comes to small stuff. They hardwired my passport 8500 on the MINI.

It fits right in the back of any mini cooper. Its all fiberglass..looks nice..i have pictures on my puter...i can send someone if they are interested. Im using my moms laptop right now cuz my puter is in the shop..otherwise i would post it....lemme know if ur interested...

I actually live very near to showtime audio, passed by there yesterday after work, and had all my questions answered. So I am going to with them.

Just waiting for the HU I want to come out...the CDA-9855 or 9853. Going to replace all speakers, tweeters, replace the HU with the alpine model and add the ipod adapter.

Well car was upgraded over the weekend. Shop did a great job.

Got the CDA-9853 installed with the KCA-420i. Also new speakers all around. Alpine's Type-R. Have to say that it sounds amazing. Will post pics soon.

Here are some pictures of the install. Not the greatest quality, but having a hard time getting my DigiCam to focus inside my car.
