Auto-Up windows, anyone interested?
What happened tonight!?
I have had about 10 people interested over the last month ... tonight at least five more hit me (and there are 6 private messages i haven't checked yet!)
I had better get organized on this - call Inside Track Cabling in the morning!
A request please to EMAIL me if interested (IanCull@usa.net); I will normally remember to post here when I have more news, but an email list is easier for me.
Thank you for your interest

Do you think it would be possible to use the functionality of the garage door opener to trigger a different external device? I'm thinking, if you could use one of the existing switches to activate driving lights, etc, you would be able to keep the stock appearance. I imagine that the signal for the garage door is just a momentary one, and not sufficient to keep a relay closed, but just thought I'd ask.
Thanks,
Stephen

sniece,
My circuit consists of four parts ...
1 - processor, programmable to do whatever I feel like
2 - auto-up window interface circuits, which is what I wanted
3 - garage door opener circuit, which is what GadgetGav wanted
4 - 12V switched outputs, which is what snek wanted
#4 provides snek with the ability to switch power on/off to his radar detector, using the rear fog toggle switch which he does not use for rear fogs.
In theory you could use the same circuitry to provide whatever switched output you might want. For driving lamps, you would still need the existing power relay, linked in to wiring that only allows it to be on with full beam lights. But then the circuit could give a latched on/off signal which controls whether the full beam relay is on or off.
And in case anyone asks - no I won't make the circuit automatically turn your fog lights on every time you get in the car

Bad form to reply to yourself?
Update before my trip away ...
1. Ordered 40 circuits boards today
2. Hope to have the sample "Inside Track Cabling" 18way harness arrive while I am away
3. Investigated "DSC track mode" and modified the design to be able to offer this (INSTEAD of garage door opener) - if you don't know what this is ...
4. All (I hope) parts ordered to build some when I get back - except for the harness which hopefully will be fine
So, my mid-March target remains ... what out for email from me next month.

So I'm reading my manual for my new 2004 MCS (aka THEPUNISHER). In the window section it says that the driver's side window goes up automatically with flicking the toggle switch. It then says that this is not available in the passenger side. Following this is a footnote that says the auto up function can be programmed on and off by the dealer.
Now my driver's side window does not have auto up function. Does this mean that if I take it to the dealer he can turn it on for me? Of interest, there are several functions that seem to be "dealer programmable" in the manual. One of particular interest is auto open of the widows and sunroof when you hold down the unlock button on the key-fobb.
any one have these functions turned on?

The manual describes features which cover more than just the USA. Search and find some disclaimers if you want to.
Anyway, in Europe the auto-up for the driver side functions. In Mexico too I think. But not in USA.

I read that too in the manual about the auto-up capability and asked Classic Mini to program it. The technician said it wasn't available on US spec cars.
I'm emailing Ian this morning to ask to be put on his list. I want auto-up plus the garage door controller circuit!!!!

Casa,
Nice that you are interested. However, I will only be able to deal with people that email me ... also my batch of 25 is reaching full commitment at the moment. Perhaps some people that said "yes" will change their mind and not want to pay ...
I am building a first batch of 10 out of the 25 today, hopefully finish tomorrow and ship later this week.
With luck in a week or so we should see some responses from new MINI circuit owners

Just back from the Post Office; shipped six circuits (to Kirk, Rob, Dixon, David, Paul and Kuldip). I hope that soon I will be hearing that installation was successful and all was as desired
Funny - the six all went to either CAlifornia or CAnada ...
Now back to building more.

Just thought I would add a little update to this post. I received my circuit about two weeks ago and it took about a week for me to install it. I have been using it for about a week now and all is well. I had a little problem getting either the feel or timing down for the double-click at first, but now I do it without any problem at all. I might have been too slow at first or maybe not releasing the toggle far enough between clicks.
I had the powered 9V option added to my circuit, for my garage door opener. I really like this. I do need to reposition the opener to a higher spot inside the dash somewhere. It is sitting just behind that access panel under the toggle switches and the signal is getting blocked by the engine. I have to be pretty close to my garage for it to work, although sometimes it will work at the end of my driveway. I have to add that these garage door openers have always been pretty sensitive to placement inside the car.
All is well and there were no real troubles during the install. I was doing the Aux input at the same time, so I had the head unit and down tubes off and I pulled the toggle panel just to be safe. It could be done without this much disassembly, but I have had this area apart a few times already so I am a pro at it now. The hardest part is getting out the rearview mirror / heated seat contol panel. I have found a plastic puddy knife works great at getting this unit out without causing any damage.
I definitely recommend printing the instructions out before hand. I made some suggestions to Ian on his instructions and how they could be clarified. No big glitches here, just some minor things that are easy to figure out.
I have used the auto-up feature now about a dozen times. Most of that was this weekend. We finally had some good weather and the windows were up and down often. It works great and is very handy when you are parking and need to roll up the windows and close the sunroof. All of that can be done single handed now. I don't know when I will get to test at a toll booth, but I am sure I will be happy with the results.
If you were hesistant about trying this, I say there is no reason to hesitate any more. This should have been included in the car originally and now my car seems like it was. The addition of the garage door activator only makes it even better. I never had problems with the opener on the parcel shelf, even in all the twisties and hard acceleration, but the toggle switch is much better than the opener.

Thanks Eric,
Appreciated
I did adjust the install instructions following your comments - a couple of pics clarifying release of the original toggle switch connector, that sort of thing:
MINI circuit install
I hope to go out to the car and do a mimic install with pics along the way - when it is not pouring with rain
