MINI on Put In Bay (MOPIB)

I was hoping to make this a sticky thread but can't see how to, so here goes anyway...

Bob and I met up today to get Phase One of MINIs on Put In Bay (MOPIB) done. The event will be Fri. Oct. 2-Sun. Oct. 4, 2009 so mark your calanders now!

The plan is to invite other groups from other cities and meet up at Marblehead Lighthouse on the mainland at 3 pm then drive to the Miller Ferry dock (its about a 20 minute drive). We hashed out a potential itenerary and are now working on weeding out what will be possible to do and what ideas we need to scrap. What we could use some assistance with right now (if anyone is willing or able) is those of you who know people from other MINI groups to start getting the word and date out for the FUNction (once the itenerary is set we will get registration forms with cost made and out to people) and if anyone has any suggestions or contacts with people or companies who might want to be a sponsor and provide stuff for goodie bags, or prizes (big or small) that would be wonderful as well! Thank you in advance for the assistance!!

MINI on Put in Bay

Sounds like a great idea, but why do this in October?? You've got all summer to pick a weekend. We don't really need English weather. Really, October is generally iffy weather; this year is an aberation, or anomaly, or something. I believe rescheduling to earlier in the year would be better for everyone. Your opinion may vary.

The general idea for the October date was to cut done on some of cost to staying at PIB. Also I don't know about you but it seems like there are way too many events on the weekends in the summer --- just my .02

Yes, the main reason for the choice of dates/time of year, is availability and cost. Just as Minis on the Dragon is in early May because that's when I assume they could first find availablity, this event will be past the "season" so availability of rooms will hopefully be abundant, not to mention less expensive. Also, assuming PIB's weather is similar to Cleveland's, the first weekend in October has a pretty good track record of being nice...temps near (or above) 70 and only rains 1/3 of the time. Check it out for yourself...http://www.cleveland.com/datacentral..._weekends.html
Mother nature cannot be counted upon any weekend in reality (as I recall quite a few soggy MOTD's).

Not to mention this will hopefully be a nice way to end the season and welcome fall!! Some people put their MINIs away for the winter, so this can be the last big thing before the sn** (yucky 4-letter word ) flurries and salt hit the roads.

Ahhh...still so much to learn!! Ok, so we just keep posts current to keep this one at the top! Considering how fast things get off topic in these threads, that should be no problem!!!

This year the first weekend in October was the 29th Regatta & the 6th annual WINE Fest. Should be a perfect weekend next year for some of the mini owners if the events are planned for then.

We are finding out right now what is going to be possible to do or not, but we are definitly working on planning a rally of some sort where people get to hit the events/landmarks special to Put In Bay...and KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED, but I have a shout-out to the ODNR (Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources) asking if we can make special arrangements to have a tour of Marblehead lighthouse for the initial meet up on the mainland before driving to Miller Ferry.

Please be sure to let us know at Michigan MINI Motoring Club (www.michiganmini.org). I'm sure that many of us would like to join in this event. Thanks!

Not a problem at all! We were planning on inviting you guys, other Ohio groups and even Pittsburgh...we were just going to get our info more together and try and set the itenerary a little more before really putting the word out...we are hoping for a good turnout and we definitly need participation from other areas to show those other MINI clubs that the Great Lakes region has got it going on!!

there is a fall weekend that they celebrate Christmas on PIB, that would be worth the drive. Reboopie could wear her tree skirt. HEHE
I will google their calendar.
