My First Thread
Although I am a new MINI motor maniac, I am definately super intersted in auto X. My bf thinks I have gone off the deep end but I just love to drive! Oh.. by the way, i know I met someone on here today with a British green S who gave me a BRM flyer! (Great manuverability on SOM
) Was that anyone here???

It twas not me, though for a second I thought it was because I'm always testing my awesome maneuvarbility skills on SOM, in between speed traps!
I'm a Mini noob too, but infatuation is instantaneous isn't it?!

It's sounds like a ton of fun! I think I was highly caffeinated during my previous post, but I am thinking that I will come up to watch and get a feel for it and hang out before I get my butt on the track. Yes, I am one of those people that takes 15 minutes to ease himself into the swimming pool!
Bear with me! Are there going to be some other spectators?!
Bear with me! Are there going to be some other spectators?!there is always onlookers. but once you get there you will want to drive it is that much fun
And for all you Scrubs fans out there: is there anywhere to get a 'hairmet' - you know, with extra room so you don't mess up your hairdo?!
Motorcycle helmets like hats come in different sizes, so make sure you get a correct sized helmet.
If you have time, I'd say to go to Iron Pony (www.ironpony.com) in Columbus they have a ton of helmets and you can try them all on.
If that's too far, you might try shadetree powersports in Middlefield (also online), they have a decent selection or Crooked River Motorcycles in Akron, Jeff (the owner) will treat you right!!
You might want to check the rules on what type of helmet you need (full face, 3/4) The full face offers more protection, but the 3/4 is cooler and may offer (I said may) more visibility.
Not sure in AutoX, but the saying on a motorcycle is how much is your head worth when it comes to buying helmets. Prices will go from $50.00 for a "cheapie" to over $6-700 for a "good" helmet.
If you are going to buy a helmet, best buy a good one. Some organizations will not allow motorcycle helmets. Best to get an SA motorsport rated one. That way if you decide to do a track day your helmet will pass muster.
I bought mine here.....

First, thanks for the helmet advice guys. I honestly didn't know that they cost that much, but Thom...you had a good point in evaluating how much my head is worth to me!!
I checked out the websites, lots of choices!! So, I e-mailed the event coordinator for the AutoX at Lakeland to see if they had course requirements there to get an idea about what would be good for my first one (i.e. the SA helmet Crashton suggested) and then I can follow up with the vendor recommendations you all gave! Haven't heard back yet...

Another helmet store
Also try Shade Tree in Amish-land, aka-Middlefield. Its a fairly "close" drive if you are an east-sider.
http://www.shadetreepowersports.com/...e=company.html Moose and I got our motorcycle helmets there and they are as reasonably priced as we have seen anywhere. I think I got mine for about $60. And there is a yummy place to stop for lunch called Mary Yoder's Amish Kitchen. Since Lakeland is just the other side of I-90 from me, I will stop by at some point on Sunday to say hi and see what eveyone is up to! Can't promise a time as we are going to a big b-day/retirement bash Saturday night with open bar!
