I'm a proud Aussie, but I currently live in "Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada".
Didn't see any new MINI's on the road last time I was home (Nov 03). Saw a few classics though.
My Aunt lives in Cremone, on the other side of the harbor. Can't wait to get back there one day. I want to dive your Great barrier Reef!!
Cheers and welcome to NAM - - Michael
If you ever come back to Sydney and get the chance, there's a small public pool besides the harbour on Cremorne Point. I reckon that it's probably one of the most amazing public pools in the world and its free! The pool itself is right on the harbour, sitting about 2 metres above the waterline. When you sit in it, you look straight across at the city, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. The view is just amazing. You can sit in the pool and watch all the ferries and ships go past and watch the city breath.
I went to school in North Sydney and occasionally we used to do runs for sport down there and go for a swim in the pool. We also sometimes did runs the Opera House over the Bridge. It probably sounds corny but Sydney really is a beautiful city.
It's beautiful, and it'll always be home. Even though I lived in Belconnen till I was 8.
Canberra can be fun, but it just doesn't have that "big city vibe" that Sydney has. That's why I prefer Las Vegas to Lincoln, Nebraska.
I personally didn't enjoy my time living in Sydney....I was too far to the north west. Everything is such a pain to get to....30min is the minimum driving time you need to plan to drive to the bloody corner shops...You can cross Canberra, bottom to top, in that time...and tolls....tolls make me mad ...isn't that what I pay taxes for??
You should see the new cross-city tunnel there....it's e-tag only. If you don't have your tag it costs something like 7 bucks....what about the poor tourists that find themselves on it?...and then have to call up to pay afterwards.....what a crock! They've blocked off piles of streets in town now too. We had to take a huge detour to get around a 100m piece of road that has only recently be reserved for buses (to in town heading west to the Anzac Bridge).
But like I said, there's no denying that Sydney looks impressive, especially on the water....some of the north shore suburbs look sweet....and the skyline is nice too...it's instantly recognisable, even to people that don't know it very well....
I didn't realise how good Canberra was until I'd left it...
(PS: I won't hold it against you that you're a north-sider......I think I'm the only south-sider on in clubMINI, m2 and NAM...Liam will chime in here at some point, I bet! )
