March 8 event at ROADSHOW MINI?

Is this actually happening (see below)? Is AMOK participating as a club? Did any of you actually get the fabled letter from Roadshow?
----
Greetings to all Mid-South MINIacs and AMOK's,

Save the date of Saturday March 8, 2008 from 5pm-8pm and make no plans other than to come to ROADSHOW MINI for what promises to be a fantastic event.

What started out as a request for the Mid-South MINIacs to hold their annual dinner/meeting at the dealership is evolving into what will be the most major MINI event since we all took delivery of our MINI's!

Lori Patton, President of ROADSHOW MINI and Godmother to the Mid-South MINIacs, has graciously offered to send a letter to her customer base of MINI owners inviting them to come view the new Clubman and asked the Mid-South MINIacs to also allow this to be a joint MINIacs/AMOK event. This will give MINI owners not currently affiliated with either club a chance to meet members of the Mid-South MINIacs and members of AMOK, Arkansas MINI Owners Klub. This will benefit both clubs in hopefully attracting new members!

Detailed info will be coming in a letter from ROADSHOW but for now, save the date of Saturday March 8, 2008 and plan on coming to ROADSHOW for an evening of good food, and lots of MINI camaraderie.

Alan Prouser
Founder, Mid-South MINIacs

Yes, this is happening. I think Carrie is going to talk about it today at the meet at Rumba. Try to come, if ya can. There is also a SCCA driving school at War Memorial that day, I may go to both. I'm pretty sure Carrie is going to both too.

Hope to see ya this afternoon!

If anyone's doing a last minute head count, looks like I'll make it.

I can hear SCCA roaring around the War Memorial course now - we live about 4 blocks away - they seem to do it monthly.

Timing is bad. I went to Roadshow on Saturday the 23rd. Taking the advice from members on how to handle my last warranty checkup, I made them do everything I could. Todd was very helpful, but told me he would have to order some parts. So, long story short, parts arrived and I scheduled for Saturday March 2 without thinking about the 8th. I just can't make three weekends in Memphis. Sorry but I am out.

Although, I have seen the Clubman and will be asking to drive it this weekend while I'm there. Hope all has a safe trip to the
Post "Private RGP2 Showing" on March 8.

Can you not reschedule for the 8th instead of going tomorrow? Just a thought. When I was needing to get Nic I worked on, they seemed pretty flexible about when they could do it, just as long as the parts were there. I ended up just leaving Nic I there and going home in Nic II, but that's beside the point!

By the way, Mark and I will be going probably in Nic II. I'd LOVE to take Bosley, especially with his new paint job (dark blue with a silver roof!) but I don't think I want to put those kinds of miles on him right now, not until his engine gets a tune up or overhaul.

Well, it would be easy except my wife and I have family in the Memphis area and they are already planning to see us. Plans made, scheduled confirmed...you know the routine.

Claire and I are sad to be missing the driving school (any plans by SCCA to do it again?), but will be joining AMOKS in Memphis this Saturday; we'll be going over earlier in the day to visit with friends before the Roadshow event.

Had a great time at the Clubman debut, although must confess I was just as excited to see the classic, BRG Mini in the showroom. Anybody win a door prize?

Both classic Minis were great to see, the BRG one inside and the maroon one outside. Unfortunately, I don't think any AMOKs won a door prize. Shame...that luggage was *nice*!!

Enjoyed the Clubman debut but in the process of being sandblasted on the way to Memphis we got a cracked windshield. The crack was 4 inches long last night and today it is 7 inches long. Anybody around Little Rock have any success in having a new Mini windshield installed somewhere in town?

Oh NO!!! I hate that. Is it a rain-sensored window? I hear those are expensive. At some point I'll have to have mine replaced so I'm interested in who you get to change your windsheild, cost... I know it was getting late last night when we stopped for coffee, but that's why I wanted to stop b/c I knew I 'd get tired and so would John. I had thought about getting coffee there to go, but they didn't appear to have lids and it was small. We just got some to go at that Starbucks. It seemed as if the sandblasting wasn't as bad on the way back. I don't know why? maybe speed had something to do with it.

Oldbunratty, it was great to run into your guys on the road on the way back!!

Really sorry to hear that Nancy! It was brutal on the way there. I haven't gotten a chance to really clean up Nic and see the damage, but it appears I have at least a few sub-wax scratches on the upper part of the bonnet toward the passenger side. We should all make a collective call to the AR Hwy Dept and make a claim I know when my aunt hit a pot hole on I40 between Conway and Russellville, they replaced her tire.

Our '03 MCS is on its fourth windshield, but all were replaced while in Memphis by folks Roadshow uses or Joe Stewart's body shop. Finally had to give up on fragile OEM windshields (first three = OEM - all cracked due to little or nothing (stress fractures?) w/i first two years of ownership); the last one was non-OEM and has lasted for years (probably just jinxed myself). I hear MINI's corrected the problem with weak windshields in later models.

Whatever you do, make sure the folks that replace it are aware that A-Pillars (those plastic covers to each side of the windshield) have clips that will break if they just try to snap them off or on. Then, a couple of weeks down the line, your A-Pillar will go flying off as you're driving down the highway (just search for "A-Pillar" as a topic on any forum - common problem). May have been redesigned to avoid this problem in later models. If windshield repair does break the A-Pillar clips, should be covered for replacement by Roadshow if you're still within the warranty period.

It was great to see that line of MINIs catching up in my rearview mirror (would have joined AMOKs on the way back but promised to meet a friend in Memphis for dinner about halfway through Roadshow event).

Was someone in the group running a radar detector? Had to stay back a bit b/c cannot afford another ticket this year. We tried to keep up but were running on fumes about Lonoke, so had to stop for fuel.

I was using a Passport 8500. Jim S. had an older one but he said it would pick up everything. On the way there, both us and Jim and Nancy had the 8500s on and we didn't get any positive signals as far as I know. It only picks up a couple of false alarms from time to time, mainly from grocery stores. I consider it $300 well spent

Nancy,
Dang, Sorry to hear about your windshield! I have several paint chips, too. I have a crack, but it was there before. I don't think I got anymore. I haven't got a windshield changed here either. I had 3 in my 03 MINI and one before the one I have now in Popeye. MINI's are really bad about going through windshields. I'm surprised this is your first. They are expensive, especially if it's a rain sensor kind. The last one I got was over $800 and it cracked before I got home from Memphis. (Small rock hit it, got it fixed for $42 here in town) The last one I got for my 03 was from Roadshow's guy, but was and aftermarket product and I think it was better than the previous ones, but the one I got recently, from the same guy, sure wasn't very tough, so don't know what to tell ya. Sorry, if you have good luck, let us know. You might check with your insurance company and see if they will recommend any one.

Really sorry to hear about the damages. Sounds like I missed a great time. Jim S., I would like to talk to you more about the Passport 8500. I now own one of the worst detectors they make. I will see you at the Scavenger Hunt.

Hey, who has pictures of the clubman event. I have some I took the week before.
