F/S: Euro Parcel Shelf

"For sale" might not be the right way of phrasing this -- it might be closer to something like "group good thing" or "group donation."

I've got a brand spankin' new Euro Parcel Shelf, thanks to the amazing parts system of BMW-Deutschland. I'm a soldier stationed in Europe, and just got my new '06 MCS, and adding the shelf seemed like a no-brainer of a decision. I was surprised to hear that these have been phased out in America.

I think the shelf cost me about 60 Euros for the parts.

Here's the offer -- I will facilitate a group buy for these. I will order five sets of the pieces and parts, and give them to five people.

That's right. Give. I am going to give these to five people who will promise to send twice the value of their pieces, parts and shipping costs, to the Wounded Warrior Program at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center here in Germany.

With the parts and the shipping costs, I think this will run me about $500. If this works out as I hope, this will drive $1000+ towards helping out the soldiers who are holed up at Landstuhl before returning to the war or being stablized enough to move back to the States for further medical care.

And who ends up at Landstuhl? The folks that get really, really hurt. Folks that got shot. Hit by mortar fire. IED attacks. Bad enough that they can't be treated by the Army hospitals in country.

When wounded in a place like Iraq or Afghanistan, and wounded enough to be evacuated to Landstuhl, really, there's no time or chance to pack. You go as is. And you get there with dirty shorts, a good stink, and a bloody uniform that you never want to see again anyway. So, guys and gals there are often wanting for the most basic of things: a shirt, some clean socks, jeans or a sweater. You can write a check, you can send goods; I hope you'll do both, because this is that important to me.

PM me. I'll try to update this as I get responses. You'll need to tell me where to send the parcel tray stuff, and I'll need to tell you where to send money or goods for the Wounded Warrior Program.

First come, first served.

Call it a holiday effort, to surprise your car with that hard-to-get gift from a friend who lives overseas and who can make the score for you. And call it my way of saying thanks to all the guys out there putting their lives on the line, while I spend the holidays with my family.

Sir - I think that's the nicest thing anyone has done on this list in a long time. I'll send this link to our club and see what we can do to help. Best wishes on your endeavor and thank you to you and your mates that are giving for their country.

I've sent my PM. Didn't plan on purchasing a parcel shelf but couldn't pass up this opportunity to help some folks that really can use it. My salute to abuzavi.

Certainly worth the effort. I have had the pleasure (as a military member) of visiting Landstuhl, once on [military] business, and once involuntarily, I can say that the work they do there is most important to the lives of those in need of a stay there. Regardless of the nature of this war, there is always a need of support from our American neighbors despite belief.

I am doing a search now on exactly what a parcel tray is, and deciding if I need one, but I think the message should go out to those who read this, that it is important nonetheless.

Thank You Abuzavi for bringing this to the forefront for those who aren't aware of the business we work in, and also a reminder to those of us that should keep constant memory. As a (less than 1 year) Mini owner, I am constantly surprised by the general nature of our collective efforts to make this world better...all from a car?

We've already got one in all our cars, but as you've pointed out tis a very worthy cause.

I've also cross posted this on another board so others can help as they see to

Much thanks for all of the kind words. It's something of a soft spot for me, soldiers who get wounded enough to get medevac'd off the battlefield. I'm not going to get all blubbery and start crying on my keyboard or anything, but having gone to visit soldiers there, to include my own, I have an appreciation for how much it just plain sucks to be there, and what a simple thing like a DVD can do to lift one's spirits.

I also happen to love my Mini, and can't see the logic of why they would stop selling the Euro Parcel Shelf -- were I king for a day, it'd be standard instead.

All are spoken for, which is good. If others are interested in helping out, cash is good, but stuff is also good, too -- maybe those after-Christmas sales have three packs of boxers on sale, or baggy sweat pants (broken limbs like baggy clothes, I've noticed), or just some plain white socks or an inexpensive CD player. Send me a PM or an email (see below), and I'll pass along more details to anyone interested.

Allebone, it looks like this:

Ideal place for the iPod, sunglasses, some Gumi bears, or a pair of '57 Chevy Nomads (what, you don't keep Nomads there?) Stock, there's just a nice, rounded piece of plastic to keep you from banging up your knees.

(And Smokey, the first step towards recover is for all of you to admit that you have a slight Mini problem.... )

Hwy - question for you - would you mind picking up ONE more parcel shelf - I'll pay you for it, and sent an equal amount to Landstuhl... I'm sure others would do the same... let us know, great thing you're doing here.

abuzavi, I'm so pleased I got in on this, just let me know how much to send in. I hope the others get a chance also since this is such a great cause regardless of your war thoughts both now and back when it started.

I recently saw another post with Cooper parts only sold in the UK. I can bet you could get people to jump on some of those products, pay you back for your efforts and bring more money to this cause.

And since people are asking, the German part numbers, names, and quantities for all this are:

07131472727 - Mutter (nut) - 10
07136800957 - Schraube (screw) - 2
07147133620 - Torxschraub (torx screw) - 10
51161186417 - Ablegefach (I kid you not -- "pigeon hole") - 1
51167057375 - Einlegematt (insert matt) - 1

Again, it was about 60 Euros for the parts for me. I'll ask my local guy how they feel about shipping stuff to the States directly. I'd put my money on his being willing to do it, but I'll ask.

abuzavi -
There is one other item that is needed and that is the blanking/blinding plate, part number is 51-45-7-072-009. It is the piece that snaps in the square hole where the euro versions have the headlight leveler.

Also folks will only need 2 of the pn 727 nuts and I don't have the #620 torx screw listed on any of my previous orders.

BTW, the MINI love runs in the family - those other ones are my kid's cars!

Yeah, I had missed the cover when I got mine originally -- you can see the hole in the photo I attached. I ordered myself one today, and the five sets. Should be in after the new year has arrived.

07131472727 - Mutter (nut) - 2
07136800957 - Schraube (screw) - 2
07147133620 - Torxschraub (torx screw) - 10
51161186417 - Ablegefach (I kid you not -- "pigeon hole") - 1
51167057375 - Einlegematt (insert matt) - 1
51457072009 - Blind plate - 1

In talking to my parts guy today (Marcus), he stated that sure, they'd be willing to take orders for shipment to the US. He urged caution, that the shipping might be expensive. Interested parties should call 011-49-6201-63041 -- their staff speaks excellent English. I am sure that, with these listed parts numbers and a credit card, they can hook you up. One could probably get away with ordering the Ablegefach, the Einlegematt, and the plate, and scrounging the rest locally themselves as / if needed.

Their websites are:

Dixon are you looking at getting in one this? If so pm me and we'll work something out, as I mentioned we've already got these in our cars - so mine order was a support order only.

BTW, I checked out the other agency abuzavi listed in his pm and their overhead is stated as less then 20%.

If the folks that supported this will pm me their addresses, I'll get the Helping Hearts emblems out.

abuzavi, thank you for the offer, and the good cause that you are pusuing! My step-brother is serving in the Army, in Germany, and has shared some stories with me...

I've already got a Euro Parcel Shelf, but have comtemplated one on the pasenger side (US) also. Because these are installed on left and right hand drive MINI's, I would think that fittment shouldn't be an issue... I suppose the opening for the steering column would look a little strange though, but I could fabricate something...

More leg room, shelf space, even for another gauge or two...

Thanks.

TonyB...
I believe there is a complete parcel shelf for both sides available as the MINI One doesn't come with a glove box (IIRC). Perhaps if you call that dealer they can guide you to the correct part number. I know there was another person on NAM that had one and it looked cool.

That's where I mounted the OEM driving light switch.

Took a little triming of the blinding plate, alright almost all of the blinding plate, but it had to go somewhere

TonyB, word on the street is that it's not. Not an issue for me -- I'm in Germany -- and its coolness and apparent lack of availability in the US is what got me to do this.

abuzavi, if this is something you can source, and are willing to do so, I'd like to get it (passenger side Euro parcel shelf)! Let me know how to move forward, and I'll glady donate to the Wounded Warrior Program. Thanks much.
