WTB: Jet Black front grill set

So have you put an aero grill on your sweet looking Jet Black Mini and have the stock grill just laying around? Wanna sell it?

I'm looking for a grill set(upper 3 and lower single) in excellent condition.

PM me or post up and let me know how much you want for the set.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Ask Drew for his smooth frames. The black slat plastic bits are really cheap with our club discount at flow

I would like a set too! Regarding the first reply message, what is this 'flow' you're talking about?

Flow is our local dealership.

The plastic bits from the dealership aren't painted. I have a full set (with smooth surround) already but botched the paint job and figure for the cost of getting them sanded and repainted I could probably take a set off someone's hands that just has some sitting in a box somewhere. :D

Does that black match the color of the black roof on my PW/B MCS?

Not sure how much you are willing to spend, but MINI does offer just the black slats like in the upper grille assembly I posted above. Classic gave me a price of $34 (part# 51137116964). I went with the full grill assembly because it was only about $10 more and installation is much easier.

Or you might also consider black vinyl, which people have used very successfully and has been discussed in the forum. Example: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=80624

Wait... so they do just sell the slats? I was of the understanding I had to buy the whole grill & surround.(wihch I did and took apart to paint but screwed up...) Are they painted or just unprimed black plastic?

Yes, they do sell black slats separately (part# 51137116964). This and the full grill assembly with black slats were originally for the MINI One model in Europe, which comes standard with black slats. MINIUSA only started to import the black grill parts last year. The slats are black plastic with a glossy finish (I've been thinking of rubbing mine down with steel wool to give it a matte finish).

Do they sell the single slat for the lower grill in black too?

Ok so is it the same unpainted gloss plastic or is it painted? Can you wax the unpainted plastic as you would the normal grill?

Thanks for your help by the way.

The single slat is the same unpainted gloss plastic as those on the bonnet grill. They do fine with wax.

Regarding the single-slat bumper portion of the grille, is it necessary to remove the bumper skin or can the replacement be done with the bumper in place?

I think you have to take the bumper cover off to replace it because the stock is hot glued O_o in place and I plan on doing the same to keep the new one on.

rkw, you may have saved the day. Are the part#s in your gallery the exact models you bought? Do I need to tell them I need black or anything? Thanks again for your help!

The single slat in the bumper is attached with double stick tape. I did take my bumper off (very easy to do), which makes it easier to work with, but I've seen people post that they successfully took the slat off without removing the bumper. I took the slat off by simply brute force prying up starting at one end. A good suggestion I've seen is the following. Heat up one end of the slat with a hair dryer to soften the adhesive. Pull/pry up the end enough to slip dental floss under the slat. Then pull the dental floss through the length of the slat to cut through the double stick tape. The new slat has tape already applied -- just peel off the backing and press the slat into place.

The part numbers are exactly what I ordered. The other versions (chrome and unpainted) have different part numbers.
