OBX header with stock cat

I just posted this inappropriately in the Performance mods thread, so I thought I would put it in the correct place too:

I have a brand new OBX header with stock MCS cat stainless welded to it (ready to install), complete with hogged out head flange bores for sale for $400, or $300 if you send me your good header core. I hogged out the bores because the OBX doesn't always fit perfectly: this way you don't have to use studs to make the damn thing fit. You want it? Gimme a call at 215 739 8800.

Hi. I'm interested, but could you define "hogged out" for a lay person? Does this just mean enlarging the holes for the mounting bolts (studs) so there is room to adjust alignment with the exhaust ports? If so, how do you know when you have it aligned? Sorry for the ignorance...

Hey Eric,

What are we talking about soundwise here? Is it usable on a daily driver? If so, I'd be interested.

Thanks!
Robin.

I'm running this set-up - sound wise - takes current loudness and makes it deeper. I think this is great for daily street - you can feel the TQ gain. There are OBX header threads (definately check them out ) - testing showed gains of 6-8 lbs of torque and 1-2 hp.

I think this is a nice value added service by Helix. $300 bucks plus stock system isn't bad at all. Helix should post pic on where to cut off cat which is the piece they want to minimize shipping .

Hogged out is just a fancy way of saying the holes are enlarged because sometimes the OBX flange holes don't match perfectly to the head bores. Aligning it takes some patience and back strength: you have to hold the header and gasket in place while you find the right head bore with your header bolt. You'll get it, but I bet you explore new levels of creative profanity during the process. If you want some hints, gimme a call.

The sound is slightly louder than stock, but not any major differences.

Hey Eric,

I'll take it - can you fit it for me too?

Thanks,
Robin.

Good thought. Just lop it off where the four pipes meet to form one, and I can use the flex joint for the downpipes of our turbokompressor kits. BTW, I sold this one but am exchanging it for two headers, so I'll get two more OBXs and re-post when they are here.

Eric, I sent you guys an email regarding if this is something you guys can do for me in the summer time or if these are a one shot deal? Would like to have an OBX header with cat, but be able to have the complete stock header when in need to bring the car back to stock!

Garrett

This is great and should be added as a HELIX product/service. This would have addressed several issues during my OBX Header Install:

1) I did have 1 bolt give me a hard time and while I paid to have it installed it increased the install time which was an hourly charge.

2) While they cut the cat off, they had to send it out to get a SS weld. While there was no financial time involved (i.e. they did not charge me while we waited for it to return from the SS welder) personal time was consumed.

3) When we reinstalled the exhaust to the new header/cat, we found that the exhaust system was pulled in (back) about 3/8 to 1/2 inch. This was caused by the installer who did measure but having had to send the cat out to a SS welder - well it came back short.

If I could have gotten an OBX Header "prepped" for 300 bucks plus my old cat - I would have broken even on money spent and saved personal time.
