Tapoco Lodge closed!!! HELP

I just received an email from Tapoco Lodge saying that they will not be opening for the season. This REALLY kind of screws my wife and I. Does anyone know of anything else available? I'm really sort of taken aback by this and am scrambling to find another place to stay.

Thanks guys, I'm sure we'll work this out.

Matt

You can try Alan at Great Smoky Cabin Rentals he has several places in Bryson City. (Alan is MINI owner and a Dragon Vet.)

I'm making some calls and here is what I'm finding:

These can all be found on the MOTD Lodging page HERE

Blue Boar Inn: 6 Rooms and 4 cottages available
Microtell: Has about 14 rooms avialable
Snowbird Mountain Lodge; Has about 9 rooms available
The Philips Motel: Has over 8 rooms available
Appalachian Inn: Has 4 rooms available
San-Ran Motel: Has 11 rooms available
Freeman Motel: Has 7 rooms,5 cabins and 1 house available

Thanks for the quick reply, Snooter! I just found a place in Robbinsville called Dragon's Rest Cabins. They had two left, I just booked one.

Thanks again for the reply, I'm sure there will be others scattering to find something, too, after that email from Tapoco.

Thank goodness for Mictrotel in Robbinsville. They still had rooms.
Will miss Tapaco but now I can take the pretty scenic up the creek more often.

Looks like Dragon's Rest Cabins in Robbinsville still has one more private cabin. Only $82 a night!! Anyone who's looking should check it out.

Wow.... that's really sad.... Tapoco is a great place... did they give any indication of why, or future prognosis?

The email and their recorded message just says "due to unforseen circumstances" As I called around town trying to find replacements, none of the locals had any clue either. Some folks did say the they have been trying to sell the place if the right offer came along, that was about it.

It looks like I just got the last room at Dragon's Rest Cabins. I was in the same boat as STJamesG8 when I got the email from Marsha Cody yesterday.

I'd kind of wondered what was happening when I didn't get a call from Marsha early in February to confirm my reservation. I had seen a real estate listing for the lodge on the internet at the end of February so I figured something was up. I will miss the place and the Cody's.

The good part is that there are some other great roads to take to get to Fontana from Robbinsville. Thanks to STJamesG8 for the heads-up on room availability at Dragons Rest -- I was looking at that place but hadn't had a chance to call the until I saw your post.

I had sort of a knee-jerk reaction and posted with panic when I first saw the email. I fortunately found the other option pretty quickly.

Silver_Ghost, I'm glad you got in, too. I noticed your from SE WI. I'm in Kenosha, you nearby?

I'm up on the North side of Kenosha just north of UW-Parkside and east of Pets. When are you heading down to the dragon? I'm planning on getting in late on Tuesday, April 28th.

If any one is interested? I will have to head home on Friday afternoon . As it stands I have a room in the lodge at Fontana that will be available for Friday and Saturday nights. I have not contacted Fontana about this yet but I will in the coming days. PM me if you are interested.

*Pending*

Hopefully it is not another victim of the economy. I liked the Chili Cookoff that they had there my first year at the Dragon.

I was trying to contact you thru the email I received from David L. I had an error trying to send it. Since I just received my NAM account validation I thought I would reply here. I am interested in the room for Friday and Saturday. This is our first trip to the Dragon and know nothing about Fontana Village, will the room accommodate three people and is it still available.

I have a room reservation at Fontana available for transfer. Double Queen in the lodge, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Reservation desk said that the dates on this room could be lengthened or slid left or right to fit your requirements. Send PM if interested.

**Room no longer available**
