Can of Worms...

Okay, I am going to ask straight out about the elephant in the forum! hee hee

If you aren't registered for MOTD:

1. Are you planning to? If yes, when?

2. If you aren't planning to, what are your reason?

The lack of registration causes concern for the organized events, I would like to get some insight.

Thank you,

Pamala

MINIsOnTop registration is still down so far, this year ... can't be a coincidence that two major MINI events are being under-subscribed. But I don't know why, either

Very interesting.... I wonder if MTTS being a couple of months later has anything to do with it?

I always wait 'til the last possible minute 'cause my job provides no predictability. It looks like I'll be going this year (with one copilot) to MOTD and casino night --- but (again 'cause of work uncertainty) it's still best for me to put off registration as long as possible.

If I still lived in the southeast, I would be there in a heartbeat. But I would wager that it is the economy. We're not doing much traveling this year... (or could it be the added cost of buying said mini and have given birth to a mini-me? heheh)

Heck-- Vegas isn't THAT far and we're not doing that either. (Then again.. still waiting on delivery...) Maybe next year!!

It's too far for me (personally)...I have never been for this reason. Not that I don't love everybody...just can't make the trip.

I'll register as soon as I can afford it. With a sticker of over 100 dollars plus other expenses (gas, gas and more gas). I gotta plan my spending.

I'm registered and I'm coming!

I just accepted a new job today and my 6 days off for MOTD was a condition of my acceptance!

What I posted in the other thread...

"Idea:
Try a separate thread for those who have not reg yet but are planning on being there. Some for a day or two, some more or less. Some just into the fellowship, not into the big events, just hanging out. If that thread does not turn into a bashing of those folks, you might be suprised at the total. (Iknow of 19-21 such MINIs)

I have not reg yet this year, and need every day of the deadline due to situations on the home front. Have reservation for lodging, but will it be just me again this year or both of us? One MINI or 2? TBD - When I do, it will just be the basic reg for some memorabilia...."

Really can't make a 100% call yet. The totals add up to quite a bit of $ for 2 people. But I'll see yall there either way! (Positive thinking on my part!)

I am going, that is not in question. But some other Mini Owners that I have spoken to have had to change plans as the year progressed. I know of at least 6 owners that had reservations for lodging and in the past month have canceled same.
Reasons: Other travel plans later in the summer, New job, Two expensive (gas), Other events taking place on or about that time of year.

Just my 2cents.

What surprises me most is people who don't want to pay to register (OK...) but still refuse to register their MINI for free!

Huh? Why not? The numbers are always interesting & exciting!

Of course, there are also those who register to come and don't realize that registering your MINI is a separate item.

I'm registered for welcome dinner, two other meals, car show and Dragon Draggin'. I did the Brew Swap last year and it just wasn't my bag. Same with Monte Carlo night. Since I live in Florida where we have I-75 with 318 miles and 11 curves, I like to do a lot of driving while I'm there.

This is really disappointing. There are many people, including myself, that have put a tremendous amount of effort into assembling all the events, dinners, facilities, etc. and the way we offset the costs of all these is through registration. This year we have gone so far as to add additional facilities (a 150x60 tent) to house registration, info desk, and a location where we can feed everyone while the Adventure Center is being set up for Monte Carlo Night and the Brew Swap. Right now, because of the low registration numbers, we are financially upside down for the tent rental..even with Fontana Village paying for a portion of it. By Monday we have to make the call on whether to drop the tent from the event and move back to backup locations for registration, dinners, etc. These spaces are less convenient, aren't centrally located, etc. but they will do in a pinch.

I would really encourage people that haven't registered to do so...at least with a basic registration. It supports all the people that have worked hard to make sure that this is a well organized and fun event for everyone that attends.

Mark

Ya know, this explains why there were more orders for MOTD6 patches than there were for MOTD5. I bet if I compare my order list registration I'll find people who bought patches but did not register.

Fontana and all the local hotels are either booked solid or very full... have been for the past year. It can't be smaller than last year... there must be a large unregistered contingent.

While I realize that not registering saves a few dollars, I can't imagine how one could take advantage of the efforts of the voluenteers of the MINI community without giving atleast something back. It just doesn't seem consistant with what I know of the MINI community.

If I was set on going I wouldn't think about not registering. Being a broke college student hurts in situations like these.

I am on the fence with job (layoff possibilities) issues. I am also concerned about the recent increase in law enforcement hassles that I have been reading about. I wonder how many others are wondering if they can still have the same motoring fun factor as the previous events?

I'm registered, with my wife and a non-mini owner friend who is coming up for a day or so.

Our bill for just 1 driver, 2 passengers, 2 x monte carlo night, 3 x brewswap and 3x farewell dinner is almost $300, and then we'll still have gas and lodging. It is pretty expensive this year, with most everything going up in price a bit. I know I almost balked at Monte Carlo night this year due to the cost, but we decided to go ahead with it anyway.

it may be one of those deals where the price has reduced the percieved value a little too much for some people.

It is sad that people won't at least do the basic registration to help cover some of the organizational costs.
