I just picked up my new JCW last weekend and she’s great— slightly befuddling, tho, given that she’s taken over daily driving from my 22yo R53. My right arm is bereft and jobless, and my brain is broken because:

How does everything work if I wanted to let my spouse drive her, with me as a passenger?

He has his own key; I have mine, and my phone key is set up, and one of those things is tagged as primary driver. If I understand all the gadgetry descriptions, each key should be tagged to each drivers personal settings/preferences, but will my phone key/override his settings? Like, will my car always think I’m the driver even if I’m being magnanimous and allowing spouse to chauffeur me?

 

I wasn't even aware that the car had per-user preferences. It's probably not an automatic thing, at least not if both keys are in range. I know it shows my user icon when I get in the car and start. I think I saw somewhere in the menus something about user accounts. Maybe it lets you switch accounts from there manually, and that drives at least some preferences?

 

We experimented. As long as I don’t have my key fob, and he has his, it will recognize him and his settings even tho my phone is present. It also looks like you can go in and change the user manually through the screen.

 

It is who unlocks the car first. You could still have your phone / key fob with you but the key it detects to unlock the car will be the profile the car is loaded up with. But like you said if the car was unlock by you key then all he has to do is switch the profile on it the display.
