Key Washed in Washing Machine
So fitting that my first post would be regarding a total idiot move.
So I just got a call from my boyfriend that he accidentally washed my extra key in the washing machine. Has this happened to anyone else? I know they are pretty expensive to replace so I was wondering if anyone had a solution on how to fix this (besides getting rid of the bf). LOL! Thanks!

Place the keyfob into an airtight container with plenty of rice.
Allow to remain overnight & then replace with fresh rice.
Repeat for several days...at least until you notice the rice is no longer "expanding".
Good luck!

Believe it or not, these keys are supposed to be able to pass a washing machine test. I've worked in the automotive industry for years for companies that make the transmitter fobs and the keys are supposed to be waterproof.
Of course, they aren't always. And even when they pass, they don't really pass the test.
The best thing to do is to remove the battery and allow it to completely dry (using rice or other moisture absorbent methods). On our fobs, they don't really open, do they? So removing the battery is not an option.
Congrats on it still working. You dodged a bullet.
