Your route to the Dragon

Mine will take me through Iowa City, to meet ini, and show him how to post photos, IM on yahoo, and haul his guitar down to the Dragon.

Then motor down to St. Louis, do some renovations, catch a ball game, see the sites, then go down further to the Dragon.

I have been looking forward to this for a very long time, now I can feel it, and want to meet folks so much.

We’ll be taking back roads through the Gulf area of FL to AL, then I 65 north, we’ll then hit GA and TN. We will be coming in to the area from the West side of the Dragon, run it and Hwy 28 to Fontana Village. I’m hoping we’ll get in about 5 to 7 PM, but that depends on what time we take off in the morning.

Not sure if we are going to do a straight run from St.Louis, or go backroads.

I just want to get there, because it sounds so beautiful.

Ugh... since I can't take a lot of time off work I think I'm limited to interstate driving down and back. Hello I-95... like I just don't see enough of you.

I HATE interstates!

(but to make up for it, I'm going to meet my mum in NC this summer, then drive highways to Luckenbach, TX and possibly up to Indy... but I digress )

Toast, living in the middle of nowhere I have to drive back roads just to get to the interstate.

We drive interstate all the way there so we can spend more time on the great roads and be with friends.

Yes....this sounds like our route, all right.

Toastie, it doesn't matter that you take Interstates to get to the Dragon. Once you are there, you will relax, hang out, and have wonderful times on the Dragon!

BTW, moving this from Off Topic to the Dragon Forum.......

We're leaving Wednesday morning, driving up to Atlanta via I-75 to see the Auto show (heard the Mini Traveler will be there), then get a cheapy hotel room for the night. Thursday morning we'll hop on I-85 to GA-365 to
US-23/US-441 which should bring us to go ole NC-28. Go checkout Fontana Village and then The Blue Water Mountain Lodge, where we are staying.

When're you coming to Indy?

A group of us from MINICCI are motoring down Thursday morning, so we can be there for the welcome dinner. I'm pretty sure we'll just be doing Interstates down through Knoxville and then coming from the North over the Dragon. That'll make the arrival done right! :-)

You should take I-85 to I-985 up to Gainesville. Then hop on US129 and take
it all the way up. The drive over Blood Mountain is great.

Some of the MININEO group will be driving down Wednesday, another group will leave Akron/Canton early Thursday morning. We'll meet up with maybe a few more at Rt. 30 and I-71 before caravaning down to Kentucky where we may be able to meet up with a larger group (still to be determined), also making it there in time for the Dinner.

Anyone wanting to join up as we travel down can PM me. Eventually, we'll figure out a time line.

I can't wait! I can't wait for winter to end too.

No set plans but will probably turnpike east and pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway somewhere south of Skyline Drive. Have done the Parkway twice on motorcycles, and it is a great way to get south.

Also want to stop off in Norfolk and possibly tour the U.S.S. Wisconsin on the way down.

Clo,

How Mini miles is it? It sounds like so much fun. One of these days I am going to take my time and do the drive cross country. I want to be able to stop and see the sites along the way too.

We will be caravaning down with the Michigan group on 4/30 and 5/1.

We will be leaving the dragon on Sunday 5/7 heading for Key West , then up the coast and doing the Outer Banks / Cape Hatteras trip, then over to Elkins W.Va and pick up Rt. 250 that will bring us almost in to Toledo Oh. Rt. 250 is another superb road. We did it a couple years ago in a Ford Escape , looking forward to it in the MINI.
