Drive from SoCal to Dragon in May??

I love to attend the Dragon run on May 5-8 but wanted to know who is going to drive their Mini’s from SoCal to N. Carolina. If so who is going from SoCal and how long it will take to drive there? Anyone shipping his or her Mini’s to the Events? Just wanted to know so I can plan my own vacation for this.

Clover's driving there from LA, but she makes lots of stops along the way... You could probalby make the drive in 4 days driving for 8 to 10 hours a day.

Haven't heard of anybody shipping their car to the event

I am shipping the Casper MINI toward you in December. Best price I have found is around 700-800. Could be a little higher now as gas has gone up. Also takes a little time to arrange.

I'm driving too, but by the time April 30 rolls around, gas prices may make it worth shipping the car and saving 2 weeks of driving time.

I am taking more of a northern route...
Minot to Minneapolis, minneapolis to chicago, chicago to indinapolis and indinapolis down to NC... dosen't seem to be crossing paths with any other large groups but we have 3 or 4 of us from the north heading down... Its going to be an amazing site when we get closer and closer and see more and more MINIs... =-D

It is amazing to come across other MINI groups

having done it. However, sometimes the expectations are dashed because

a) the other MINIs are going the same directiong
b) the other MINIs are going the same speed
c) that makes it hard to cross their paths unless they stop

Nonetheless, the caravan leaders will be in touch...it will be fun...

I couldn't afford to take 11 days off to drive, so I'm flying in and renting a car. Not a MINI.

I figured it would take about 3 to 4 days of 12 hour driving to get there from SoCal. Even 3 days there, 3 days back, and 3 days at the event, too much time.

Visit www.fontanavillage.com for location

Go to Mapquest and do Driving Directions figure it out.

Mine says 34 hours and 20 minutes or 2254 miles

http://tinyurl.com/3vsv2

That's a lot of driving. Figure in a place to sleep and food along the way--$45 for motel + $20 for food(fast food). My round trip tickets were around $350 with taxes and fees.

If any of you from California & other points west will be coming thru St Louis let me(Lois) or Jonathan(jsouz) know & maybe you can join us on our trek East.

DVLMINI, which route are you traveling? I'll wear my PJs if you come with us

I think I-70 and as much as I'd like to be part of a caravan, I make a lot of stops for my old lady cocker spaniel--so I don't know how well I'd fit into a caravan. Let me know what your leave time place is and I'll join up for a bit if I'm in the area.

I-70 comes right thru St Louis but we'll be taking I-64 east to I-57 south then I-24 east to I-40 east. That is the shortest route from St Louis so you may want to consider it. I-70 takes you a little too far north. We'll be leaving about 5:30 am on the 5th. And meeting at the Drury Inn at the Fairview Heights, Illinois exit off I-64 just east of downtown St Louis. I probably make as many pee stops as your aging Cocker does

We'd love to drive down with (from MN) you but we're heading down early to the Outer Banks and Savannah and then hitting the dragon on our way home.
Could you join you on the way back maybe...
