Drivetrain RMW Tuning Feedback -How's your R56 MINI doing?
My experience with the sport button has been this: I normally keep it off now. I do like the stiffer steering you get with sport on, but the car actually feels like it's more smoother with sport off now. And there's plenty of power with sport off, in fact (someone please correct me), I think the sport just gives you quicker throttle response and the aforementioned steering feedback change. Power and torque remain the same. I should have asked Jan about that when I was with him, but I was too dang excited!

To be legal you only need the one working cat.

Definitly wouldn't accuse you of slacking...but just wanting an update on what and when we can expect the next big thing for the r56 RMW tune.

Sprot button doesn't make the throttle faster, it makes it normal...lol
I really hate the push and wait aspect of the throttle without the sport button.

finally got to work to scan my dyno results
This is on a completely stock 2010 MCS (dyno numbers are before and after Jan's tune). At about 2500 RPM (except in 1st) the car takes off like a rocket. 2nd gear torque steer is pretty crazy.

very hard to believe that is wheel power on a completely stock S. Those numbers are what you see on a tuned S. Did the dyno correct for flywheel power?
EDIT: Duh.. I see you meant hardware stock and then tuned.

As far as I know it's wheel horsepower. The TCF is 1.0 so I'm assuming they didn't correct for flywheel power. But I'm no dyno expert by any means, I'll leave that up to the experts here. All I know is, I'm pretty happy with the butt dyno results.
I've just realized you probably meant a stock mcs with jan's tune. correct? You said completely stock before posting that dyno.
Dynopak's bolt directly to the hubs. The whp is a direct measurement, those numbers look right on par for Jan's tune.
Yeah, sorry about the less-than-clear post. I modified it a bit to clarify that the numbers are before and after Jan's tune. The torque increase across a wider powerband is what's really impressive.
Haha sorry, after being up for nearly 24 hrs, doing a 1 day Phx-LA trip, I was beeeat.
Anyway...I'll try to explain things to the best of my ability, and sorry if I ramble as things come to my head. The tune is amazing. The latest maps that Jan has the abilty to tweak, have brought a new level of smoothness that I just cannot get over. On my drive back to Phoenix, I could not stop smiling about it. It seriously feels like I got a different motor.
We did driveability stuff (street tuning) all day long, so we never actually did any dyno runs. And quite honestly at this point, I could really care less what the peak numbers are....the driveability and power curve are exactly what I want out of the car, and to top it off, there is no doubt that the car is running a lot stronger than it was...it just takes off and doesn't stop. Maybe I'll dyno it one of these days just for curiosity sake, but I really don't see the need.
With the tune that I have had for over a year now (with a slight re-tune in Nov of last year), the tune felt rather edgy/aggressive, and I had to tweak my driving style to be able to drive it smoothly. Did not bother me that much, as the newly added power felt great. Fast forward to the new tune from yesterday...I told Jan that tune feels like something that would come from the factory. There's just a new level of sophistication and smoothness, that was never there before.
The boost comes on sooooooo smooth and strong, yet in a very progressive nature, and stays until the redline. With my old tune, I would barely dip into the throttle and it would instantly boost up to almost 18 psi, which might sound cool...but it sucked for driveability. Now the throttle is very linear, making the boost come on in the smooth nature that it does. 5th and 6th gear on the highway, is crazzzzzy. Put ur foot down, and you'll be doing verrrrrrry naughty speeds verrrrrrry quickly, and so smooth that you don't even realize it's happening. One of the biggest changes is power up top...don't know how he did it, but it's STRONG up there.
For a lot of the drive back I just set cruise control at 80, and relaxed. The exhaust and motor are a lot quieter at those speeds now. The Invidia has a slight drone to it, and with the old tune...your ears would be ringing after a 6hr drive to LA. The loud drone was a constant "raaaaarrrrr", and now it is a gentle "hummmm." So, even when cruising you can tell just how smooth and clean the motor is running. Oh and I avg 35mpg on the way home (keep in mind this was through the open desert and let's just say it included some "floorboard testing"
), so the gas mileage was quite impressive.
BIG thanks and
for Jan's hard work!

That was a big issue with my previous tune, and didn't hear anything all day yesterday. Temps in OC were actually quite hot, almost 100 and pretty humid...so it wasn't much different than it is here.
Sweeeeet! Thanks for taking an entire day off to go do that (oh, and thank you Jan of course
) The way you describe the old tune, where it would instantly boost at low RPMs is exactly how mine is now. It definitely is a hoot to drive, but as a daily driver it's almost dangerous. I'll be in stop and go traffic and before I know it, I'm right up on the guy's a** in front of me. At all other times I welcome the "rage against the machine", but I'd love a little bit of that smoothness you got.

ThumperMCS tune sounds fantastic. 2 questions - Is all of that with or without the Sport Button pressed? If you have access to a dyno, can you get that kind of tune without actually seeing Jan? I've missed his northest ventures.

How about some details?
