Help Identify this Cable/Plug

Help Identify this Cable/Plug

Apologies, I had to repost in the correct forum (previously in Mods>Electrical)

I have been trying to identify this cable/plug but I think because I am not entering the correct name for it, I keep coming up with random results for oil dipsticks. I included two pictures of what I am trying to identify.

I ask since I went through a bit of a journey this past summer with my MCS. I started getting an engine light and then reduced power. A scan came up with a few codes, one of which was P1338 (camshaft position sensor). I tried clearing it but it would always come back. I brought it the mechanic who sent me to another one who was more versed in European cars. Both said that they thought it was likely a timing chain and not to sink more money in an expensive diagnostic that would only confirm their guess. Plus it was burning oil at a faster rate than expected and they couldn't figure out why.

I was going to change the camshaft position sensors to rule that out but also considered selling the car, so I started cleaning it up. I was wiping down the engine when I noticed the cable and plug in the pictures was unseated and basically almost off. I plugged it back in and tried clearing the codes again and....they cleared. And stayed cleared. For a month now. My oil level has been good and I haven't had to supplement what I put in back in June.

What.The.Heck.Happened?

That is the exhaust VANOS solenoid. I believe the cam position sensor is on the other end of the valve cover, towards the drivers side of the engine.

Correct. There are two cam positions sensors which I have located. It was this disconnected cable that I couldn't identify but I believe you nailed it. I just googled your suggestion and watched the guy in this video (below a 1:14 )unplug it from the Vanos solenoid. Thanks for your help with this.
