R60 - totaled ?? -

Hey guys -

Its me again - If you all recall earlier this year my 2014 R60 went into a sinkhole - And the repairs were beyond me - so into the shop it went...

The damage was mostly electrical - then of course the tow guys towed it on a regular tow truck even though I was insistent it need to go on a flatbed - So, on the way to the shop they tore up both differentials.

Long story short - My car has been in the repair shop since February - While the shop tore it all apart an fixed a ton of water damage parts (photos enclosed) and the finally of the story is the insurance had stuck about $7k into the car to get it all fixed up and everything is now fixed, aside from that the shop noticed that now the ABS light is on - and per diagnosis the car needs an ABS computer and programming - (About another $800) - as the shop said that they couldn't find anyone to program a used ABS module as it needs to be flashed and programmed, and BMW/MINI will only program new modules bought directly from a Mini dealership.

The shop stated that it had to be programmed specifically the this car as the ignition switch and all computers talk with the ABS unit and with a faulty one or a non-programmed unit the car will lose power at the engine - Limp mode. (sometimes)

So we went back to the insurance agency and made an amendment for a new ABS module - and then after the insurance agent added up all the $$ they already paid for all the repairs that were already done - they said the the ABS unit puts the claim over the total loss thresh-hold and they are now going to deem it a total loss.

So after 4 months in the shop - and almost $7k in repairs - they are gonna total it over a $800 ABS unit that sells on ebay for under $200. (how to program tho ??)

I owe $6k on the car - and Im guessing with "Better care replacement" they will offer me somewhere around $13k.

Im curious what your guys thought are on a buy-back and if I did - would it still be insurable ?? Thanks everyone.

Take the money and run away from the car as fast as you can. Water damage is nearly impossible to repair 100%. The car will manifest various problems until it goes into the crusher...

If the car has been declared a total loss it is questionable if the car can be insured. But I wouldn't even bother to research this. Let the car go.
