Countryman S All4

ok, so this has been a headache for me for a bit. Driving down the freeway heard 2 loud clunks from the back she died on me. Checked for fluid leaks or anything hanging and nothing. I took her to a shop and within an hour they said the motor was bad. They checked the oil in front of me and there wasn't anything on the dipstick. Really bugs me because I check the fluid levels weekly, and it was fine. They quoted me $12k to replace. Is this average or normal? I'm going to get a second opinion. The car is in great shape, body and interior was clean. Apologies if this seems a bit scattered, I'm a bit frazzled by the situation and insurance is of no help. Any advice? I'm in Eastern NC if anyone knows of an honest repair shop.

Damn, that sucks, how many miles did it have one it? but around 10k seems about right for a motor and the labor at a dealership.

Does the N18 not have a low oil sensor at all? That would seem crazy that it wouldn't say low oil level or low oil pressure?
