"4x4!" warningand Code and DSC OFF

I did a search on diagnostic code 5E8A and only one unanswered post was returned. Code says "DTC--DSC All-wheel drive control, EKN module, excess temperature." '13 R60 S ALL4, stock to my knowledge.

Situation was, I had held the traction off button for over 5 seconds to "fully" disable it, as I was stuck on a hill in the snow and wanted the wheels to spin as much as I wanted. I only managed to rock the car back and forth a couple times, no ridiculous wheel speeds or spinning for more than just a couple of seconds. Then I got the "4x4!" warning and some message about 4x4 being disabled, can't remember exactly what the information center said.

That being said, how can whatever this unit is, overheat so quickly, in such non-harsh conditions? Further, can anyone explain what that error chooses to disable? What one press of the traction off button does, and what a full 5 seconds of holding the traction off button disables?

Yes, I did try rocking it out with the traction control on, as it does do a good job, but I needed wheel spin for the kind of snow I was on. And I reiterate, I was not being hard on the car revving it way up and/or letting the wheels spin wildly fast or for more than 1-2 seconds each direction, as I was trying to rock it out between forward and reverse.

Thanks.
