Oil Pan Question?

I just got my hands on a 2013 Countryman S. It had two previous owners. The first one had it maintained by BMW up to 50,000 miles. According to carfax, the second owner went to the cheaper places for the oil change for the next 30,000 miles. Unfortunately, one of those places stripped the oil drain plug, attempted to rethread the hole but made it larger than the first, so the OEM drain plug does not fit. They plugged it with a bigger bolt, and it somewhat works. I bought it 3 hours away from my home, and about halfway home, the low engine oil light came on... added some oil got it home, and found the issue. With all of that being said, I will replace the oil pan. My question to the group is which one do you all recommend? The OEM one is 450 on pelicanparts.com. Others range from 45 to 130. Should I buy OEM? Also, It doesn't look like the transmission fluid has ever been changed. It is shifting fine. Should I still replace it or wait?

Thanks for the help!

Looking at the options, maybe the paint is different, and the OEM pan coating is more durable? Also, some after market pans appear to come with a cheaper drain plug… Is that worth a big discount to you? It might be. I can’t see spending that much for a piece of stamped steel.

THanks for the reply! I was trying to find the difference as well and that's what I saw too. The car is not under any warranty so I don't mind not going with OEM I just couldn't understand why they wanted $500 for an oil pan! Thanks for the advice!

I'd get the cheapest pan and add a magnetic drain plug along with washers (pack of ten or twenty).
The OE pan pricing is just insane for a stamped steel one. The OE Peugeot/Citroen pan is less than
100 € in Europe and I'd bet it's the same as the OE Mini.
