Recently notice in heavy traffic my 2011 countryman S stage 2 was burning oil, in normal driving I havent seen any burning, I now have over 200,000 and wondering if anyone
else has had the same problem and how it was corrected without replacing the engine.
Would this be the end of my mini, thanks for any suggestions.

Swap out the turbo/ turbo oil feed line lately? I've heard those go bad and dump oil into the turbo to burn off.
I am impressed though, 200k gives me hope!

At the mileage you are at (fantastic by the way!) I’m wondering if it’s the oil filter housing gaskets. You don’t mention if it’s burning internally and smoking white smoke out the exhaust? Or if it is smoking from under the hood and smelling like burning oil?
When I picked up my R60 a couple years ago it was leaking at the oil filter housing (a very common leak) but it never left a drop on the ground, but sitting in traffic I could smell it burning and see puffs of smoke occasionally from the front. What was happening was that it was dripping onto the exhaust pipe and burning off, never hitting the ground. The gasket set is only about $40 but it’s in a tight spot down below the turbo. It can be reached from underneath. The labor cost to have it done is prohibitive. I was quoted around $800. It was really easy to replace when the turbo was out already, but it can be done if you can get under it with some ramps or something.
I can’t say that it’s the same thing on yours that’s an issue, but it’s worth checking because it’s a pretty common oil leak on these.

Great info, thanks, in my case the only time I notice the burning oil from the rear exhaust was in heavy traffic, my last oil change (last week) notice 2 pints missing which never happened before.
I was going to remove the plugs to see which cylinder maybe the cause, as you said, no oil leeks on the ground, will take it easy until I decide to replace the Mini, great car, had lots of fun.

Engine could be using oil. I've driven a number of cars to 150+K miles and one to 317K miles with no oil consumption issues but that doesn't mean all engines are immune or even just your car's engine.Originally Posted by minicountrymanS

If the engine is "worn" rings of course could be an explanation. Or more likely valve stem seals. Any smoking from the exhaust? I know you can't see the exhaust but you can drive away from a low morning or evening sun and in the rear view mirror look for any signs of smoking. Try hard acceleration from a stop. Try steady throttle then lift off the gas pedal and let engine coast on closed throttle then after a bit give the engine full throttle.
Have to mention that with one car I smelled burning oil and it proved to be oil leaking from a bad camshaft cover onto the hot exhaust.
