my automatic transmission wont grab

so i was driving down the highway and my coolant cap failed and spewed all over the transmission. as it was doing so i lost power and it started to slip and gave me a p0741(checked when i got home). decided to do a coolant system overhaul while it was out of commission and replaced the thermostat/crossover pipe/expansion tank as well as a few other things that needed attention. buttoned everything back up and she started up and warmed up nicely. took it out for a spin and the transmission was slipping!! it got to the point where i needed to keep the hand brake up and rev the engine until i felt it grab for it to accelerate. it was a quick trip around the block with a new problem. the transmission has never been an issue with the car and i can only think that "MAYBE" the plugs directly under the coolant tank shorted something out? anyone have any ideas what i should do? ill be checking the fluid and maybe do a transmission flush while im at it.

also, the code never came back after the test drive even though it was slipping.

thanks!

I would change the ATF before doing anything else.
