Plasticoat / dip and others, durability?

Hi,
What's the durability of this type of covering on trim rings and the like? Do they chip or peel easily or do you have to constantly renew them?

Key is to get a few good heavy coats on. (If for anything other than ease of removal later) It can last years. It is very durable.

I did all the chrome and my wheels with it last spring. Lots of driving in all weather and washes including the car wash. Still looks great! Like iwashmycar above stated, a few good heavy coats, the thicker the better. And I also sprayed a coat or two of glossifier on them too. Several on the wheels. After a few days, even in really hot weather, if cured to a nice finish that isn’t rubbery to the touch, it’s nice and solid feeling if you run a hand over it.

They look great....where can I get that glossifier that you mention MRgrumpy? Did you remove the parts to spray or did you do 'm on the car?

Took the wheels off. And used the note card method. Super easy. No glossifier, but that is the look I’m going for. Has been on a year! Note, not a MINI. Hee hee

Used a large cheap painter’s thin plastic masking tarp, poked holes in it and did these right on the car.

I had done my wheels on my old R56 back in the day as well. Held up fine for a couple years

The rubber paints will eventually wear thin, but that is easily touched up. I have used the Rustoleum product the last couple of times and much prefer it to the Plasti-dip. For me the finish is better, smoother and not quite as flat.
