New Member Looking at Purchasing a Modded 2012 All4S

Hey All,

Looking to potentially replace my Prius with an ALL4S. Love the way they looked modified and an extra plus for it actually being shorter than the prius :D

The one I'm looking at specifically is a 2012 with 69k miles and modified. It has 20" wheels, lowered, aftermarket side skirts and front lip. Any ideas what which front lip and side skirts are on the car? Also has a bunch of blacked out accents which make the car look pretty aggressive. They are $13,500 for the car and I'm wondering what you guys thought of the price?

I did some research and it sounds like mini's suffer from some issues (water pump, etc). Is there anything specific I should be looking for before purchasing the car?

I do have the option to purchase a 2014 FWD (stock) with 67k miles for roughly the same price..

Thanks dpike. I'm really interested in the car but need to do more research. It is an automatic.

I think that is a bit high. We have a 2012 SA4. I'd offer 11K and no more.

HPFP
N18 likes to eat coils and plugs (25-30K mi replacement)
Water pump
Turbo secondary cooler

Those are what we've had to deal with.
Get a code reader and software as many faults are rather easy fixes.

Thanks! I did some research and it looks like the HPFP might be covered under the new 10yr/120k warranty extension? What's the cost of the other items (coils, plugs, water pump).

Whether the HPFP is covered or not is specific to the car. You can provide the VIN and see what is covered under "extended warranty periods."

Plugs are sub 40 from ECS Tuning while coils I got from rock auto for ~$35 a piece.

To be honest, they were cheap compared too the mods we've done to make it a heck of a lot of fun... and it is a very fun car!

"I did some research and it sounds like mini's suffer from some issues.."

oh boy, is that an understatement. Yes they can suffer from HPFP failures, they eat turbos before 75k, water pump and thermostat failures, premature battery failures, premature clutch failures (although you are looking at an automatic), electrical gremlins, coils/plugs as mentioned and a host of other issues. I would also suspect that the car with 20" wheels will ride a bit on the harsh side, not to mention the cost of tire replacement. On the flip side, Jwanck is right, they are fun to drive and at times it can make you forget about the problems you will endure.

I would want to have that car checked closely and get a service history before i put $$ down on it.

We love ours. 2012 bought with 32k miles. Paid $17 from dealer. Been running it hard for nearly 2 years without any issues. Did a stage 1 tune, plugs, and running like a champ.

The price sounds a bit high for a ‘12, but I say buy one. They are a blast to drive. Mine is a ‘12 as well. Even though I’ve had a couple of issues (currently replacing turbo), I love my R60. There is a chance, with the amount of miles on it, that a good number of the well known problems may very well have already happened and been dealt with! Make sure to get service records like mentioned above! I have everything all the way back to the window sticker when it was purchased new. I know with mine, the turbo is my issue right now, but the HPFP and timing chain and some of the other stuff has all been replaced on mine not long before I got it. I’ve had some other minor stuff like the VANOS solenoids and some general routine maintenance, it’s been a great car, and I’m very happy with it....Good luck and let us know what you end up choosing

Well, we just bought a CMS All4....Yay!!!!! Some may say we paid too much too (see above) but every deal is different. The bottom line is does the car fit the needs of the buyer and does the buyer love the car?

Being practical isn’t a typical MINI owner’s trait! LOL! Miniacs have the same affliction!

Buy what you like and what you can afford and enjoy your MINI!

Cheers!

Congratulations and welcome to the adventure! Lol..... just kidding (sort of) :-) glad to hear that you got one that you are happy with! That’s all that really matters. Now find yourself a local Mini enthusiasts club and hang out with a bunch of other weirdos with quirky cars!
And don’t forget, these forums are your friend! I have been helped out with several things by the great folks here and it has saved me a lot of $! Lots of experience and good DIY tips here....use it. Welcome to the Countryman family!

Hollywood...that’s my old Mini....never had a problem with the car...spent more time and $$$ on all my customization. I traded it in on a Q5 over 2 years ago...and it sold like a week later....so looks like that owner let it go......
Did u buy it?

Let me see if I can find the info....I bought it used with 10k miles on the 20”s were on there already....I ended up lowering the car on HRs with stock sport suspension and never had a rubbing issue which I thought was remarkable given that I sometimes carried 4 people...
