Hi all, unfortunately I'm new to this forum with an unhappy start. My 2012 Countryman S All4 was hit by an Impala who ran a stop sign, I was going 35/40mph and had the right of way. All air bags deployed in my vehicle, none in the Impala, and everyone walked away fine. The Mini did a fantastic job of keeping me safe!
Before the crash, my car was in great condition, just got new tires and has never been in an accident before. Miles just below 80,000. I've seen others in this condition going for about $9,000- $11,000 in my area (New England). Is this accurate to what my insurance would consider the car worth prior to the accident?
Anyway, I don't know too much about the makeup of minis., or how much this repair is going to cost. I'm hesitant to even go that route if it's an option, in fear of lingering issues. Is my insurance likely to consider this a total loss?
If it is declared a total loss, I'll be moving on to a smaller cooper as I'm moving to the city.
Glad to hear that all walked away. I got bounced around pretty good when a woman did not stop at a side road stop sign. My SUV rolled/bounced several times, had two vertebrate ruptured. I never approach a stop sign or traffic light without double checking that the other way is stopping.
Hey buddy, glad you were ok. Did you get a total loss on yours? I crashed mine pretty good last thursday...just bought it in April, saw a loose dog near the road, while trying to see if someone was with it, rear ended guy in front of me. I was doing 40...airbags did NOT deploy. Mini/BMW have been in contact. Anyways, body shop stopped estimating at $19,500 and feel ins company will make it a total loss. Your car has similar damage to mine. I walked away shaken but not injured. Back has been sore.
Mah baby blue!
Hope, an 'at fault' accident and a write off wont help your insurance premiums. Insurance considers the market value of the car less the salvage value and if the repairs are anything close to that amount, yours will be a total loss. Get your personal items out of it while you can....

Sorry to see this....glad you are ok! We just bought a 2015 Light Coffee CMS ALL4 and we absolutely love it!
Let me add my 2 cents regarding your damage. Have a competent "independent" body shop look at the car.....it "may not" be as bad as it looks. If the front frame rails are ok, and the damage is high enough to think they might be fine, the damaged bonnet is typical and can easily be replaced. I'll take a wild guess, assuming the damage is mainly cosmetic (with the need to replace the radiator and a/c condenser & no structural/suspension damage). You will need a bonnet & pad, some light engine compartment sheet metal and plastic pieces, and two headlamp assemblies (these along will cost you close to $1,000 for the pair), plus the radiator, a/c condenser and miscellaneous piping/fittings, and maybe a lower bumper cover if the original cannot be repaired. The total cost including paint and clearcoat may be around $6,000 or $7,000. If that's more than a certain percentage of the value of the value of the car, then it may be a total...but, I bet that Countryman "can" be repaired!
POST#3 - That sure looks like a total to me. I'd wonder why the airbags didn't go off. I know they have all sorts of sensors, algorithms to determine when an airbag should deploy, but at 45mph head on crash you'd think that would be the time for it. Glad no serious damage for you personally.

Good point! I didn’t notice the date...he never followed up either! :-(. I agree about the blue one....air bag should have deployed you’d think! That one looks like a total yes.

Hi all, thanks for the notes. Blue was a 2016. Sharing for awareness.
Mikey_t - I work at an insurance company. Thankfully a long term customer so that helps a little but I know the deal, my rates are hosed.
Minnie the Moochie - Hi! You actually gave me amplifier (or was it speaker?) advice when I first bought my mini! I took your advice and I'll be yanking my amp and new subs tomorrow - as stated above, get my things out while I can.
Thanks to all of you who left nice comments. Appreciate it. Very fortunate that the crumple zone up front did what it should have.
Curious about those bags too.....really seemed like they should have popped but they can do some harm just the same....maybe the impact was too "cushy" or something and pushed the other vehicle? Maybe it wasn't abrupt enough to pop em....just speculating of course.
Yes, those little crash sensors are down on the crash tubes, could you see any of them? maybe it did not hit those sensors or the force sensor on the centre console did not register a high impact?
Awwwww glad you all are okay .... I’m new to the Cooper family with a purchase of a 2011 ... if anyone wants to mail me cup holders that sit between rear bucket seats, I’d pay for them Venmo or PayPal ...

Hey guys! It was a total, unfortunately. I rear ended a stationary truck, but the bumper went high, so maybe that's why the airbags did not go off. The frame was buckled, but the body shop guy showed me where the airbag sensors did not go off, so strange! I did just finish listing some items from the CM on the forums, not cup holders, sorry! Floor mats, speaker pillars, subwoofers.
You all take care out there. I picked this beauty up in Nashville last Friday - only had 1,083 miles on it, 2016, Highlands Edition! Wowza.
I totaled my 2013 Countryman in an accident in January. All of the airbags went off - which is why they totaled the car - at least that is what the agent told me. They told me it is very expensive to replace all the airbags and associated systems. I walked away. with no major injuries - major impressed with the performance of the airbag system and the integrity of the body.

Thats a real shame about your CMS! It makes me a little sad inside to see one go....sniff.....
But the important thing is that it did it’s job and kept you safe! That’s what really counts. And that ‘16 ya got there is one fine R60! Glad it all worked out and you are ok! Happy motoring in the new Countryman! Time to start making it uniquely yours!
