New Clutch Install

Has anyone attempted a clutch install on their CM? I am definitely due and it hurts to think its over $1000 in labor alone to swap this clutch. With a proper clutch and flywheel its looking like a $2500 job all in. If anyone has swapped I'd love to hear your experience. I am pretty familiar/comfortable/competent with the car, I just swapped the turbo and oil lines in about 5 hours my first time doing it. I will be moving at the end of December and will not have a garage to work in anymore so hoping to do this before end of the year.

Update- Just found a thread of someone swapping their CM clutch. I think I will leave this one to the pros haha

Agreed, my issue is this is my DD and although I'd have access to another vehicle, my fiance would give me crap every day I need it haha. I'm very tempted but when you start removing arms and driveshafts I begin to worry. Plus I need to change the master and bleed the system. Sounds like more hours on my back than I'd care to give up haha

Just finished up this job on my CMALL4, and boy was it a doozey. having done it already, i would do it again. but finiding information on the all4 on how to remove the transfer case and driveshaft was a bit of a bear. you have to remove the drive shaft to drop the subframe, then to remove the transfer case you have to loosen the transmission and pull it away from the transfer case. i put a long screwdriver in the universal joint halfway down the car to lock the driveshaft so i could loosen the nut at the transfer case. it took me 3 months of working exclusively on Saturdays and then one more week where i worked nearly every day for a few hours after work before i lost the light since i don't have a garage. hit some roadblocks and found out a lot about my car and myself in the process. if you end up attempting yourself and have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out! also, having finished the job and had a running car for about $400 after clutch kit and required tools were bought, i'd totally do it again to save myself $2,100 off the dealers $2,500 quote.

Were you able to locate a service manual with torque specs or any procedures? Did you replace the flywheel or just the clutch parts? I'm needing to do this job on an All4 myself but can't seem to find any good info. I did the same job on a 04 MC so I'm familiar with most of the job. Thanks in advance for any info!

the best thing i can say is follow the article on Pelican Parts, and the only real difference is having to remove the drive shaft to get the subframe dropped. i pulled the heat shield from the exhaust (also removed the exhaust) and stuck a big screwdriver in the universal joint; only then was i able to loosen the 2" nut holding the drive shaft on. then you'll have to get the transfer case off.which was very straight forward, i think about five bolts in total. i did the starter after the subframe was removed because it made it so much easier to get up in there once the SF was out of the way. if you have any other questions, just hit me up

So it is time for the clutch, ordering very soon and bringing to my father-in-laws shop for the install. He runs a shop about 20 mins away and is giving me a fantastic deal for the whole clutch job, both master and slaves replaced as well full brake flush while the power bleeder is on. Don't think it needs the brakes flushed but what the heck! For those who have done this can you please provide any tips or tricks to make this easier on him. IIRC some people noted that large nut on the drive shaft is not normally threaded and should turn towards the drivers side? Also, that the slave needs to be compressed to properly bleed. I'm looking for that kind of stuff to help them out. Thank you!
