Maintenance Plan Upgrade

When I pickup the car yesterday, the financial Manager tried to sell me anything he can including the maintenance plan upgrade. Is it worth paying $2500 for 6 years/100K miles?

Crunch the numbers, that is the only way you can justify to yourself. Figure out what kind of miles you will put on the car, what the plan covers and what the associated costs are.

IMO the prices the dealer charges for everything are inflated so if you DIY or go to a non dealer for those items you will save a lot. I never would buy that plan for my cars.

Also keep in mind you can shop around to other dealers to find one who will sell it cheaper or you can make a lower offer if you really want to buy it.

The dealer's quote was $3450 and he just reduced to $2500. I may keep the car more than 100K and it may be more than $4K from non-dealers. Just want to know if it is a good price

Just bought my Countryman and their offer was $2,600.00 for this plan.

But I do all the maintenance on all my vehicles and have yet paid the amount I would have paid for this service on just this vehicle. One truck has well over 100k and the other has 30k. So it wasn't worth it for me. And I service my vehicles more than what they want me to on my Mini.

My 100k plan, amongst other things like oil changes, brakes including fluid changes, etc, ALSO includes a clutch. To me that makes it worth it, but I'm not sure how they're doing it for the new MINI's.

I may drive 10K-12K miles per year and the plan may be OK for me

The service rep told me that the replacement brake pads/rotors depends on the sensors for pads/rotors. Based on my driving experiences, two sets of pads were replaced under 100K miles. I heard that pads will last longer on an SE model

I've had new rotors and pads all around and 2 brake fluid flushes in 2.5 years. Oil changes every 10k (I change oil every 5k in between the 10k dealership services) Totally worth it to me. New clutch goes in 2 weeks from now. Gotta get it since it's "free". I'll hit 90k this weekend. (bought the car with 40k)
Have never heard of an SE model MINI.

How did you know it was time to replace pads/rotors/brake fluid?

The manual, AND when you go in to the dealership for oil service they'll ask for my key fob and they'll stick it onto a reader at the counter. The car will tell them what is required at the time. The first time they told me I was due for Oil change, Brakes and brake fluid change. All "free". The original owner paid for the extended maint. plan. As far as the rotors go, they usually just replace rotors and pads together.

I just wonder if I buy this option later or not even if the maintenance charge will go up every year

On Lucy (2013 JCW). I did both. Since she was standard and I knew I would need a clutch that paid for 100% of the plan so it was a no brainer. Clutch bill without plan would have been $2,800.

She may not make it to 100K but at 6yrs when the all electric comes out in 2019 she is gone. I would never keep her past extended warranty and maintenance would just be a ticking time bomb for another $2,800 clutch or turbo replacement.

Wouldn't the clutch of the manual models be covered under the extended warranty and not the extended maintenance plan? I was under the impression that the maintenance plan just covers fluids, filters, etc. I need to do some more research and decide what I am going to do when I purchase, would love to absorb the cost of the extended plans into the financing when I purchase and avoided paying for it in full later on.

My MA briefly mentioned when I ordered something about a Tire & Wheel plan as well? Anyone know anything about this? He said you can only get it when you initially purchase the vehicle, as once it drives off the lot you are ineligible.

Did he tell you the details like the covered range of the tread, deducitable, and the maximum coverage of the contract?

Also the car should be serviced at the Mini dealership first. If you get new tires from other places like Just Tires or Costco, will the contract be still valid?

He didn't provide much other details besides the fact that it typically runs anywhere from $1500-1800. I am hesitant because that price doesn't seem worth it, unless it covers the wheels as well...

Going to get in contact with him and push for further details this week.

I was offered $999 with deductible and maximum coverage of $5000 for the life of the contract.

I just found that the price For an extended maintenance to 6/100K is $2800 from Mini USA but my dealership offered $3499 originally. The dealership said the price from Mini USA was an MSRP and dealerships can mark up. Just can not believe
