Need immediate HELP from manual transmission Countryman owners!

Need immediate HELP from manual transmission Countryman owners! took countryman to dealer today and when I got car back my manual trans feels different. when its IN ANY GEAR the stickshift moves around a few centemeters side to side and a bit forward and back. I remeber it being in gear and not moving very much!

Please anybody with a manual Countryman go and check yours for me! Put it in first gear and see if the stick shift wiggles and moves, and if so how much! I want to know before I have to call dealer, thank you all!

Sorry AT. What kind of service was being done that could have caused the issue?

Mine has a little play when in gear. Side to side up and down travel in any direction about 1/2 inch complete motion stop to stop.

It sounds like a bushing is missing. The one in here, where the blue arrow is pointing. In the picture, it's missing. It's hard to tell because it's next to impossible to get the camera in a better position. Hope this helps.

VERY interesting indeed. Mine is 2015 with 8000 miles so not sure how that could have happened. Is that something I can replace? I think if more kind people help me out and take a moment to look at their own manual countrymen and post on here we can figure out if its "the nature" of the way this car was designed, or if there is in fact an issue unique to my car.

Thank you!

Anybody else? Can a few more people please check your manual countrymen and let us know if yours moves when in gear?

after clutch job, mine does not have significant play.

It WAS very notchy and would stick when moving from left to right (i.e. the resistance was more than the return spring could overcome when shifting out of Reverse), but it "broke in" and is fine now. feels like newish again.

Anybody else?!

Im astonished that in this community very few people have stepped up to help. All Im asking is those with a manual, put it in gear and let me know if stick moves side to side and how much.

disappointed

Have you driven other manual cars? It's inherent in the linkage design. Too tight, and they risk binding. They're designed to have a certain amount of clearance, and because of the leverage of the shifter it may seem like a lot of movement. 1/2" is not a lot if you consider that the shifter fulcrum probably gives you 5x the leverage at the shift **** over the linkage. If it doesn't stay in gear, or you have to "fish" to find a gear then it would be a problem. If you can shift normally, I'd recommend to not overthink it

A few centimeters sounds excessive, maybe 1/3rd an inch. I routinely wiggle mine around after putting it into gear from a stop or taking it out of reverse, sort of an ocd habit, but I do not have "a few centimeters of play" by any stretch. The Getrag design is very tight and I don't think there is a traditional linkage. Take your 2015 mini to the dealership and have them look at it for free.

Mine has maybe 1 centimeter play per side, and less than half a centimeter of vertical play.
