Countryman Wheel Size

are there any problems going to a smaller diameter wheel for the Countryman S All 4?
Want to go to 16" wheel - looking for a softer ride

Not sure you can put 16s on a Countryman; stock wheels are 17s, with 18s optional. The first thing to consider for a softer ride would be putting on some non-runflat tires. I'm sure others will have more input, but the tire reviews on Tirerack could be a starting point for selecting softer-riding tires.

16" wheels work just fine. I use them as my winter set with steel wheels
The ride is much more comfortable than with my 18" summer wheels (runflat).

16s work and are available. More common in Europe.

All4 Wheel SIze

Thank you all for the help
Had done away with the run-flats already
My area of New England seems to be spotted more heavily this year with pot holes - have done in two tires already
Hoping that a combination of more sidewall will help with some of the damage and provide a bit of a softer ride

thanks again

#lotsofsidewall: LOL!

Jayski, do you currently have 17" or 18" wheels?

Absolutely - really enjoying the relative comfort of the MINI 16" steel winter wheel set (non run flat tyres). I only ran for a month of the 18" turbofans and RFTs before swapping over wheels but it rides pretty awful on UK roads on the 18s.

The winter wheels are 7Kg less each than the summer wheels - combine that with RFT versus nRFT and an extra 1" of tyre wall depth its no wonder the ride is so much better

Can Countryman JCW run 16-inch steelies or is it restricted to 17 inch? Tirerack.com doesn't even offer a 17-inch option when you enter vehicle year and model. 1010tires.com (Canadian site) states that 17-inch wheels fit.

Need input from folks with experience. Thanks

Its can take 16" on the OEM steel wheels. The front caliper is like the same size as the Cooper S on the R60.
