Has CR said this? I believe they were reported in past years. These two brands have been represented in reliability reports for individual cars and if you have enough data to report reliability for a single car model, you certainly should have enough to do an aggregate over the entire brand.

And I disagree with you that these sorts of overall aggregate ratings are "not very usable" for a purchase decision for two reasons. First, by reporting by brand rather than individual model, there is a much more statistically valid sample size. Second, the mfgs are constantly revising cars and/or coming out with new models. This makes detailed historical data on individual obsolete models much less useful as a prediction tool for a new model. Having some idea of a mfg's reliabilty rating for the brand as a whole is very useful in these situations. For a used car, I agree, looking at the data for a particular year/model is more useful.

Mark, I did notice at least one "past year" reliability rating, but it appears they rarely have received enough responses from Jaguar and LR owners to draw conclusions. This year all of their models were rated "insufficient data".

My personal opinion: I'm sure their survey has flaws, but it is by far the best data we've got on overall vehicle reliability. The biggest problem is that they don't differentiate between minor and major problems - the reason many Fords appear in these lists is mostly due to software issues in their media systems, not basic car reliability. I think you have to take these things as general indicators and not try and put too fine a point on it. The Countryman may not be in the bottom three (or even the bottom ten), but it certainly has its fair share of problems (as most Minis do). You don't buy any Mini for rock-solid reliability.

Interesting. Even as spotty as Mini is, I believe LR and Jaguar would be higher up the list than Mini if they were included.
