Ordering 2013: Do you like your sunroof?

Okay, I'm about to order my 2013 Countryman S. I thought I really wanted a sunroof since I live in San Diego and the weather is almost always perfect. However, the few times I've taken one for a test drive we've had to shut the sunroof because the wind was pretty loud. Of course, we were about to get on the freeway, so... I'm wondering how many of you with a sunroof would get one again. I'm also a bit concerned about sun damage (to me! :-)) driving around all the time with the sun beaming in. Thoughts?

On that note, what other options do you deem worthwhile? I'm only really considering the sunroof & auto climate control (Pkg 2).

Thanks!

It is rather loud at freeway speeds when open, but I like the light it brings in. I also like popping it open when the car is parked in the sun.

Worthwhile options in my opinion are:
- Bluetooth (can't recall if it became standard in 2013 or not, but it's a must have)
- xenon headlights
- auto climate control
- auto wipers (ok maybe not in San Diego but I know it rains there cuz I fly down every other week)
- Center arm rest

Have fun ordering!

unthinkable NOT to have a sunroof in SoCal ..was actually a MAJOR deal breaker for my wife when we were shopping (we bought our used '11 Clubbie from Mini of San Diego).

Thanks for the feedback FredoinSF. Why the xenon headlights? Are they that different? Thx!

The only thing I do not like about the sunroof is the more than normal amount of wind noise. The dual glass panel pop-up is cool and the overall interior lighting is very cool. My favorite options are xenon adaptive headlights, sunroof, connected, hk radio, flat load floor.

When I drive people in my car, they love the sunroof, especially the back seat passengers. Given a Mini is smaller to begin with, having the sun roof opens it up they say. Doesn't feel as tight.

I wish I did the Xenons. Personally not a fan of auto climate controls.

I tinted mine with the darkest shade available. Works great.

The sunroof is loud when opened at the tilt. It is quieter when fully opened. I love the dual pane sunroof. Every always compliment and say that they never really seen a dual pane sunroof.

Much brighter light. Try both on a non lit street and see the difference.
No xenon on a couple of otherwise very nice CPO BMWs I was considering is why I stuck to my CM order. I do a lot of night driving in the mountains so for me it's a must have.

Sun Roof (to option or not???)

Well, I live in Phoenix, AZ. I am a new 2013 owner. I have the sun roof and it was another deal breaker for me. I had an infiniti with the sunroof and our pickup does not and I missed it. It is odd that all we get is a sunscreen for cover but the salesan told me he isn't seeing any of the ones with the roof coming back with sun damage and you can't get hotter sun then here. I have a super dark tint on it with the sliding screen. I should note that I have light Toffee Lounge Leather and I am not concerned. I will see how it goes this summer and maybe get more protection but right now not concerned. I think it really opens up the cabin and gives a really nice feel of openess. Note I am a little clausterphobic and I like the front and back light coming in. I use it all the time driving around at this time of year. will likely close it up once we get to 110 in a few months. The major options were a must for me, Lounge leather, panoramic sunroof, Harmon Kardin stereo. Don't care what anyone says about the stereo, it is a lot better and sounds awesome. I would upgrade the stereo. I didn't order the mini but if I did I would have gotten the Xenon lights and the fog lights and driving lights just because they look cool

Oh yes, I do have to add that my infiniti had Xenon lights and honestly I didn't even know it. I have a hard time seeing at night regardless. But, everyone on the threads say it is a must and I am like a pagent mother with my Mini and what to see it have everything everyone else has so I say I would definately have gotten them just because I don't know what I am missing but don't want to miss out on the opportunity for the Mini to look cooler. I asked the dealer what it would cost to add now, he said it is $500 each light plus labor. I passed. Diminishing marginal returns. I can see fine because most of what I do is not mountain driving at night but not because of the headlamps.

+1 on the sunroof. Also tinted it at 5% and added a sunroof graphic to control the amount of sunlight.
Must haves:
Adaptive Xenons
Climate Control
HK Sound (much better than stock)

I live in SD as well and I don't have a sunroof, but I sure do wish I had gotten it. My wife's car has sunroof and I always have that open.

Options

+1 for the sunroof formall the reasons stated above. I love the xenons...great visibility at night.
I really like the auto climate control. I had a MINI loaner last week and missed the auto climate. It is much more hands free and quieter because the fan slows down in real time vs....doing it manually...

I have cold weather pkg, HK stereo, moon roof, and garage opener. I'm glad I picked all of these. I really wished I had gotten Xenons and climate control. I had those on my GTI MkV and I do miss those options. No cold pkg needed in wonderful SD for lucky you!

I guess I'll be the contrarian on here: I live in San Diego and have the dual-pano sunroof and wish I'd skipped it. I very, very rarely use it. To me it's a $1,000 option that I could have better spent on something else, not to mention it adds weight to the car. I would not have gotten it but for my then-girlfriend (now fiancé) being so adamant about it.

I agree with those who have emphasized the Xenons. Those things are must have.

I would not order a sunroof. Mine has one and the heat in the summer with the shade is still too hot. I had ceramic tint put on it and also a roof wrap and this has helped reduce the heat transfer, but I do not like glass sunroofs, I prefer the old metal ones. Its cool looking with the back tilted up but I would not pay the extra money for it. I live in the St Louis area.

Tinted windows, tinted sunroof. Xenons. Heated seats. Harmon Kardon system. Those are my favorites and worth every penny.

I have gotten a sunroof on every car that I've owned that offered one. I love the dual pane. There is some road noise when it's open, but I also have the rack and a snowboard holder on there which I'm sure makes this worse. When tilted, it's pretty quiet.

I never really had problems with sun heat or damge because it has some tint to it already and you can close the shades on it. I love to tilt it when it's really hot outside to let some of that heat escape through the top too.

Living in Colorado, it's nice to have the open roof to see the mountains when I drive up I-70.

I personally recommend it.

The double sunroof is great. It also helps the people in the rear seats feel like they have even more room than they already do (so i have been told)

I had it in my JCW and specifically did not order it on the CM because of road noise.
