R60 Tinted Tail light?
Tinted Tail light?
hello everyone,
has any anyone tinted their rear tail lights? I took my cm into a tint place and they tried but couldn't do it because of the curved lights. I'm looking for a place in San Diego if you have done this mod, thanks for any info you can provide.

Lyle from "Vinyl Styles" in San Carlos, CA, did mine. He used a tint film and they turned out great. But the lights do have an odd shape and he warned me that it might not come out perfectly. Fortunately, he did a great job and they came out awesome. I'm planning to post pics of Hujan when I'm done with the other exterior mods.

Install was straight forward and fairly easy. I cleaned the lights, sprayed it with water (more like misting), applied the film (centered as possible), squeegeed out the water from the center out. Its best to use a hair blow dryer or heat gun for the curves. The film is pretty thick but the heat will help mold into it. Prolly good to have another set of hands.
Tinted tail light film from Outmotoring. I applied this to my '03, not sure if the R60 is a more difficult install, but mine was easy. Just follow the directions.
Lite misting, squeegee out excess water and air bubbles, let dry and you're good to go!
The finished job looks great to me. Film is forgiving in that you can move it around and completely remove and reset if necessary. I've had it on only for a couple of months but has withstood numerous washes, waxing etc.... Its pre-cut and available for the R60 price $30.
Good luck

There is a tint shop near me that tints all taillights and headlights, no matter what the shape is. They don't use a film, but they look amazing when they're done. I haven't got my car yet, but I'm getting done as soon as I do. I will post a picture, but it will probably be another month still.
Melangell that looks sweet!
Although I do find it ironic when people take the time to tint their taillights on the only color car the taillight already matches. Film may work, but the Countrymans curves are way more than the others. They stick out from the car pretty drastically and one of the few design features I do not like at all. Don't know why with all the smooth lines they decided to throw in random protruding taillights like some 50s car.
The other afternoon a car went by me with tinted taillights and they were pretty dark. Dark enough to for me to take a mental note "wow those are pretty dark" Almost hard to see during day. A few miles up the road the same car was pulled over for a fender bender being rear-ended. Nothing major and might have been a coincidence. This isn't a wives tale, or "I have a friend who once", I witnessed this first hand.
Not to sound like an old man, just be careful because this is the part of the car which tells the person behind you that you are stopping and anything which will alter that might not be safe. If done properly it can look great and be perfectly safe, just proceed with caution and make sure you are safe first and foremost.
