R60 iPhone 4S Cradle
iPhone 4S Cradle
Hey guys. I have a 2012 CM S on order right now. My question is what kind of cradle do you get to hold your iPhone? Also, does the supplied Y cable also charge your iPhone when plugged in? Thanks!
Not using a cradle either. I either put it in the cup holder, the short cable will reach or leave it in the rail. It came with a generic phone holder, but with the emergency break handle blocking the rail, there isn't really much room for it, the sunglass holder either. I just put stuff in the rail between the dividers and it works pretty well.
The cradle will be ~$250. It keeps it out of sight.
Beyond that, its all negatives. It won't allow the use of the Plugin for Connected. You won't be able to use a case with it. Each time you upgrade your phone, you'll most likely need a new cradle, and BMW has not been timely about getting them out or have much information on the subject.

my iph4 sits in the rail perfectly(even w/a a thin hardcase on it.)
The Y cable is only included w/ the CM if you opt for BT, connect, or Navi.
If you take none of the above, it is not included! (*on 13' models BT will be standard)
- The cars w/o above options only have the single female headph. jack port in the center rail. You can weasel a cable, (like I did) & it will be useful for iph/ipod music to play via AUX mode on the stereo but the USB cable end will be useless & you wont be able to charge your iph.
You could however, run a small USB extension cable from the Y cable to a 12v accessory plug in & power your iph this way.
(Y cable plus extension cable plugged into stereo jack & cig lighter port will do this but be kinda messy(maybe).

Hi I wonder if anyone thinks this is a good universal cradle. I don't have connected. Just need to use my phone as gps at times.

I owned a 535i for a short time and it came with the cradle that installs in the armrest for the Iphone 4. When I upgraded to the CM with Nav and the iPhone 4s, they still both work! As my contract for the 4s has another 18 months to run and I plan on keeping the CM longer than that, I should be good to go
I am very happy with the convenience of getting in the car, slipping off the gel cover I have the 4s (3 for $7 at Wal-Mart) and inserting it into the cradle. The phone is out of sight and connects to the exterior antenna. I know I get a better signal this way.

Picked up my CMS ALL4 last night.
It came with open cradle for the phone and a strap to hold it in place, it sits on the railing. It's abit tight though with the phone and glasses cradle and the weird handbrake gets in the way. I didn't order it though. I think it's standard since it's still wrapped in plastic sitting in the trunk when the product specialist took us for a tour.

Not sure if the phone cradle was included because I got the USB option as well.
I did not get the garmet hangers, trash bag clips or upright phone cradle.
I did receive my armrest. the ashtray/cupholder, a sunglass case & flat phone cradle.
I have a rear bench. I think rear bucket cars w/ the 2nd rail rcvd additional attachments.

I have a rear bucket, split rail, and got the same as you, but with a second cupholder.
I know I'm going to sound like some kind of a technophobe, but . . . I went through all this when Zaftig arrived. Bought at least 4 phone cradles (between BMW and MINI at $250+ per each and all guarenteed to work), then went through the software update, and currently use the short Y-Cable as provided and just slide my phone between the passenger seat and the console. Just long enough to let the phone rest on the floor, out of sight, and convenient to grab if I need it.
Sealy - Who knows that sometimes the best way to deal with technology is to eliminate it.

And the handbrake will go all the way down? Very interesting. Not sure it will work with connected vehicles, but think the concept looks great.
The flat phone cradle is two pieces, are you sure you have the flat phone part, which is rectangular attached to the more square rail piece? The two should snap together then it fits in the rail, it wont slide all the way forward so attach in the middle and slide up or back.
There were no instructions with mine so at first I didn't know where it was supposed to go, but fooling around a bit, and trying different ways finally got it in.
Then I took it out because with the emergency break and arm rest it is nearly useless in that part of the rail. ;-)

Yeah I had it apart and put it back together. Didn't have any other pieces lying around either. Comparing the base (piece that should go into the rail with the lever on it) with the base of the sunglasses case, it's definitely smaller. I took the base off of the sunglasses case and looked for a way to attach it to the phone cradle and didn't see anything.
I'll have to take a fresh look when I get home.

So the intresting thing to watch is what happens with the iphone 5. the 30 pin connector is gone, so BMW will have to create a whole new dock for the armrest. Any bets on how long that'll take? =/- 2 years?
Not to mention: will it cause the ridiculous price of the snap-in cradle to drop?
