MINI Camraderie

So, I've seen several hard tops and a few CM's around my town, but have rarely gotten a wave or even acknowledgement.
But this morning on my way to work, I noticed a bue hardtop had turned in behind me. I gave a quick wave, he waved back!
But once on the highway, we both merged in behind two semi trucks, he got over first and then allowed me to jump in front of him and we both passed the trucks at a good speed. He followed me until I had to exit the highway, where again we waved and nodded at each other! Completely made my morning!

Secondly, does anyone have the link for the "Saw your MINI" thread in the MINIs in General section?

We are starting to have tons of Countrymans and we have loads of all MINIs in town (New Canaan, CT) already... Unfortunately most people arent "MINI Owners" and don't wave... Except about a week ago I was driving back from Darien and a Blue R52 S or R53 pulled behind me and started slaloming, so of course I acknowledged by slolaming back... And then we motored around for a bit before he hit the on ramp for the highway. I think i'm going to start posting signs around town that say "MINI owners wave!"

Nice guys. I've only seen a few other Countrymen, but I don't think they were from here, just passing through.

It ws just a pretty cool moment in the life of my mini!

Excellent idea Kyle! I'm actually thinking of starting up a MINI Motoring group here in my town, or atleast spreading some word about it and see if I can get any interest. We'll see what happens.

Where are you from? I know that every MINI owner I talk to, yes I usually stop them and compliment them on their car if it's an appropriate time, doesn't know that there is even such a thing as a MINI community!

I'm going to have to figure out some way to get the word out.

I'm in a small Texas college town about 1+ hours from Houston. I'm willing to bet that few, if any even know about the MINI community.
I just really want to go on a MINI drive!

I got 2 waves in the same day the other day, but other than that I don't even see other mini drivers looking my way.

Ditto. Have had my Mini only two weeks, I've seen two others and neither even gave me a look.

Having previously owned a motorcycle and jeep, I find this behavior odd as those groups are habitual about recognition.

Now, I have been approached in parking lots by non mini owners commenting on 'hoowwww cuuuute" it looks ...

Ditto: Got my Countryman in May and not one MINI has given me a glance, needless to say a "wave". Kind of discouraging, but I don't see that many around town where I live. Had a Cooper "S" drive behind me, then pull along beside me, checking out my car while driving down a busy street recently. Not even an acknowledgement.

Had a Jeep Wrangler for about 4 years and EVERY Jeep I passed gave me a honk. Thought it would be similar in a MINI.

I know. When I got my Mini, (1st one ever) I was so excited about having this unspoken Mini bond with other drivers and it's been kind of discouraging. I only hope that it's just because of the small town I live in...

It's not just your town. Most MINI drivers waved when I got my first one back in 2004, but every year it's less and less. I still suffer through through most people ignoring me for the rare occasion when someone returns the wave.

There are two Mini dealerships in my area so I see Minis zooming around all the time. It really depends on the owners. Most of the time if I wave I either get the strange "Do I know you" look or the "hey, fellow Mini, " look.

I'm guessing the people that purchased the Mini solely for commuting/MPG are the ones giving you the blank stare. The people who purchased the Mini because they're fun to drive are the wavers.

That was my guess. Or you've got those who purchased purely for looks, " it's cute."

I love my MINI for all that it is and I truly enjoy finding other enthusiasts!

Totally agree! I've waited my whole life to own one (well, part of my life, anyway) and when I got mine, I thought I'd be part of the "cool kids club" but ... no.

I still think all MINI's are awesome and have fun trying to spot them on the road just like I've always done. Someday, someone's gonna notice this blond waving and beeping and not think I'm trying to pick up on them!! Hopefully, anyway (lol!).

I don't see many Mini's in my city but when I get out near where I work I see a lot. I always want to wave but I don't think I could take it if they didn't wave back. Maybe I will try this afternoon after work.

I'm right there with you! Was really looking forward to being part of this unspoken MINI club or such, and not so much around here. Seems to be just another car. And that's just the opposite for me. I've always wanted a MINI and now that I have one, I'm just stoked!! It's the coolest car on the road! lol

Just motored to work behind a MINI convertible! Good times, good times. I should have flashed him but wasn't thinking. Next time.

I can't wait to find a club to motor with!
