iphone 4S and Connected

Okay, so we just picked up our Countryman, and i love it. But one of the things I was really excited about was using our MINI Connected. Unfortunately, my iPhone 4s apparently will not connect, we got the new Y-cable with the car, so I am unsure as to what the problem is. Can anyone help out? Thanks!

Lucky you, I am still waiting on my trade to be repaired.

Is the app working ok on your phone?

I'm no pro, but I think you need to have the iPhone in the cradle to get the apps to work. I think. You also need to download the "MINI Connected" app from the app store. I think.

P.S. I think.

Did you download the app?, create an account, open the app?

What error message is there?

Nope, in fact the cradle won't even work with the plugin portion of Connected

Nope - don't freak people out with guesses.

You DON'T need the cradle. The Y cable works fine.

You DO have to download the app, set up your account, etc. Then plug your phone into the connector cable and turn ON the app. The app has to be on (i.e., open / running).

Then using the scroll **** in your MINI, go select MINI Connected and it should work...

That's why I wrote "I think"...

I guess I should take note of this, considering the car I'm getting has Tech/Connected, and I'm probably going to end up replacing my droid and getting an iPhone, all for the car!

The cradle is $250, doesn't allow all features and won't work with a case. Pretty ridiculous especially after $250 for the armrest and gobs more for the setup. But it's out of the way

Do make sure the cable is completely plugged in. Even if it's slightly lose, you won't be able to hear anything. Does the music on your phone play?

And YES, you must download and start the Connected app. It's SO much fun!

I have the App, started playing with it right after we ordered, and months before the car got here, haha. So this is what has worked: I plugged the Y-cable in, had the app running, attempted the "self-diagnosis" with my MA in the car at the dealer, and it said failed to connect on the iPhone. Went home, (i have kids so i needed to get them home and couldn't stay to mess with it with my MA, though he said I might want to roll back from iOS 5.1.1, not sure if that is a good idea) tried it out again, nothing. Bluetooth works fine. Brought out a white Apple USB cable, when plugged in shows the iPhone as a connected device, but then says, connect with Y-cable, so my thought is, faulty Y cable, at least from the USB side. Anyone else have this issue? Also, there is not cradle anymore on mine, it came with the newer rail cradle which is just a box and a strap to hold it in place, not in the armrest at all.

Maybe restart the phone or delete the app and reinstall.

I never needed to run the self diagnosis, I assume you tried just letting it run on its own.

restart and reload seems like a good idea, I will do both tonight and then give it another shot tomorrow. I have been so excited about listening to Pandora I just found it disappointing.

Pandora is a bit different, just run the pandora app, and it will show up in the cd/multimedia tab.

I have both the supplied Y cable and cradle. The cradle Mojito is referring to is a seperate piece (needs to be purchased) that snaps into the armrest (required to be purchased) and the I phone then snaps into the cradle. It is accessed through the "external devices" on your screen. Works as it should....with the only real advantage is it's hidden/out of the way. As recommended, I would uninstall and shut down the phone. Once you power back up, reinstall the mini connected. Once that app is running... You should never need to re-login in...just open the app and have fun. Same goes with "google send to car", Facebook etc...I'm able to enjoy everything through the cradle...except with a error reading "not connected"...but I am, just not through the Y cable. Still.......... Waiting for "Office", emails, appointments, calender, etc.....hopefully with IOS 6 around the corner.... Mini will follow through with some additional updates. Enjoy your new ride!!

I have iOS 6 beta...but no connected...otherwise I would give you guys an update.

Sorry.

But turn by turn navigation works well in iOS 6. Spits out traffic info, plus construction and accidents.

Sweet! Now if MINI/BMW would just incorporate the iOS6 Nav into Connected and let it display on the car screen, that would be perfect!!

iOS 6 Beta - no Plugin...yet

I'm running the iOS6 beta on my iPhone 4s and I've got connected. After a little issue with BT streaming got straightened out (make sure to remove the phone from the list then add back in), I'm turning my attention to the Plugin feature. Plugin fails to activate, however all other features of Connected that were working still are.

Will keep you posted.

My new hope for the future update, now that Apple and car manufactures have announced the future additions of a button to activate Siri for "Eyes-free" driving (sounds dangerous), i'd love a software update that would change the voice-command button on the steering wheel to an "activate Siri" button when iPhone is connected and Plug-in enabled. Seems like a fairly straightforward programming issue.

I'd be curious if the new Maps app in iOS6 has an API for BMW to tap into for possible integration...?

maps would be the same, minus flyover/vector art. both are tom-tom lol

If they could update the archaic interface for selecting an address that would be awesome.

I'll play with it later today.I'm sure i screwed up the settings somehow although i don't remember doing anything different.

Quick update: with me at least, plugin with iOS6 beta is definitely broken. It will not activate. However, instead of easily navigating (and seeing) the music, I can still post to twitter and facebook. Joy. /sarcasm
Just Plugin seems broke.

BT streaming, after initial hookup, appears fine. Sadly Siri turn by turn voice command seems to have an issue though. It's beta, but looks promising.
