lock - unlock chime

I have been reading the owners manual in preparation of MOJO's delivery in 11 days!!

In there, I read that you can set a "acoustical signal*"(pg.21 in the manual) with a * at the end. Does that star mean that only CM's with factory alarm can set that "acoustical signal"? And is that signal provided by the horn or other device?

I did not get the factory alarm but, I'm hoping I can still set some sort of audible noise when I lock and unlock the car (via key fob)

Thanks.

I have been wondering that too, and was going to go back and look at my manual. I am a bit OC about it and a beep would help. I guess it's not essential, just what I was used to with the Acura. Change is good

You only get the audible sound if you have the factory alarm.

Unfortunately there is no audible sound without the alarm, I do wish it made some sort of noise so you knew it locked

I have always felt the sound of the locks actuating was plenty
loud enough and alot less annoying to everyone else within earshot
especially at night when you don't want to wake people up!

With the alarm, the sound is louder than it needs to be IMO. I turned it off cuz I thought it was borderline obnoxious. The lights still flash and I'm good with that.

Well, that stinks! I like at least having the appearance of having an alarm! I will proabaly have a simple alarm put in. Thanks for the replies everyone.

The marker lights do flash when locking or unlocking,to the uninformed it could be taken as an alarm being set 

Me too. I saw the feature in the owner's manual, but it seems that without the security option all I'll get is the flashing lights. Too bad, it would be such a simple add-on. MINI, are you listening? ?

Is this a setting on the multifunction stalk button? I can't figure out what to do to get the lights to flash.

FWIW - No alarm, no Connected.

That's correct. Had trouble "You-i-fying" this feature myself. Sometimes you just need to turn it all off, and try again later. The stalk button does seem to have a mind of its own. IMHO

For reference, like yourself, I have neither the alarm nor MINI Connected.

The folks that insist on having some audible noise louder than the door lock actuators have used the simple circuit of the gas cap lock (it locks with a simple pin when the car is locked) to trigger a piezo buzzer/speaker from Radio Shack.

I personally see it as an annoyance and don't understand why it is necessary but it can be done.
