Gas tank size???

After taking the wifes country man on a few trips I have been very disappointed in its gas tank size and it MPG. I have found that even though the CM is bigger than my MCS cabrio the gas tank is about 1-2 gallons smaller. This to me makes no sense especially since the car gets worse gas milage because it is of course bigger, sits higher, and all in all has a CD that is worse than the MCS.

So in closing MINI please do something about making the gas tank at least 2-4 gallons bigger than what it is now!!!!

i think you should send something to mini about this....although they dont seem to listen to this board,,,otherwise the chrome issue, hpfp issue, temp sensor, turbo issues would be resolved. with the things just mentioned, i highly doubt that the fuel tank will get bigger anytime soon. in the meantime, dont accelerate hard and drive without the sport button enabled and dont let the car idle too long...motoron

They considered it, but the engineers decided that consumers would rather have the glove box.

It's interesting to observe how many 'opinions', both negative and positive, are driven entirely by perspective. My last car, an 05 xB, got about 30 mpg and I rarely got more than 300 miles from a tank of gas ... about same as I expect from my CMS. I work from home and travel a lot so I'll fill up about once every 3-4 weeks. No complaints. Same with the RF tires. I assume the folks that hate them the most were probably driving a very 'smooth' car prior. After my car, the RF's were a step up. . Paradigms drive perspective.

You may be right about some people's experience with RF's coming from a "smooth" running car, but I went from a Tacoma truck (which rode like a truck) to a 335i with RF's and found the ride to be even more uncomfortable than the Tacoma. When the RF's wore out I replaced them with non RF's and kicked myself for not doing it sooner. It was like driving a completely different, and much better, car. So, when I got my MCS, I replaced the RF's with 150 miles on the odometer. Those 150 miles were a flashback to the 335 and I love my MCS with the non-RF's.

thanks in advance.

I have a 2008 MCS and my wife previously had a 2007 MC cabrio. Both tanks were 13.2 gal and I get about 400 miles to a tank (almost 34 mpg). She got quite a bit less as the Tritech engine was not nearly as thrifty as the N14.

The wife now drives a 2012 CMS and the tank capacity is 12.1 gallons. She typically gets about 300 miles to a tank (about 30 mpg) around town. We hit 32 mpg on a 900 mile mostly interstate trip last week (averaged about 70 mph).
Cheers,
Greg

I wonder if MINI's sensitive about this issue. I've never before had instructions for filling the tank that tell you to go through two more click-off additions after the primary tank fill clicks off the nozzle. I seems like they're trying to help you squeeze in the most you can at a filling.

Do the smaller MINIs get the same instructions?

To many things to worry about just make the tank proportions in line for hte size of the car

Ah of course. First things first.

I guess for you since you don't drive as much it doesn't matter but to people that drive their cars almost everyday and fill up at least once every 3-4 days it would be nice to have a 400 mile per fill up country man.

I see about 400 miles a tank with my 2011 MCS cabrio now which is great. I haven't taken it on a good road trip yet so I don't know what my highway miles per tank would be. I also see about the same MPG

I have never seen those instructions for filling on the CM. But I can understand why they want you to because it seems to pop the nozzle a bit premature and I have to press the nozzle at least 1 to 2 more times to really get it filled all the way up.

I just think it is a major over site on Mini's part to think this tank being smaller would be adequate for the Country Man which aerodynamically is probably the worst of the mini fleet.
