Anyone buy the Maintenance Program Upgrade for their Countryman?

I can do oil changes and brakes myself, but would not mind having them covered up to 100k at the MINI dealer. I'll likely do 1/2 interval oil changes myself, but the upgrade should provide 4 additional dealer oil changes, at least 1 set of brakes, and maybe a few other items. At $1895, this does not really make sense if you can do oil changes and brakes yourself, or even at an independent shop for much less. However, the clutch is also covered. If the clutch happens to go before 100k, that would definitely make it worth while.

If you did buy this, were you able to negotiate the price? There is a long thread in the R56 forum where people were getting the package much cheaper, but most of those were from 2010.

We did decide to buy the extended maintenance, and we were able to negotiate a reduction from the dealer's starting point. There was also a Costco discount in there, as I recall. Our primary motivation was it being the first year for the Countryman. Discussing the service cycle and costs with the service department, considering our expected use, before making our purchase also helped us decide. We'll only know at the end if it was a good decision.

I generally avoid extended warranties/service agreements because on average, they're losing propositions for the buyer (otherwise, the companies couldn't afford to sell them). I realize that the same thing is true of homeowner's insurance, medical insurance and auto liability insurance, but those kinds of policies insure against potentially-catastrophic losses, so they're still worthwhile.

At $1895, getting a new clutch out of it would be the only way you could hope to recoup your cost, even if you're the type of person that would otherwise pay dealer prices for things like oil changes and brake jobs even after the standard service agreement ended.
